A week had passed since Luciano told Giovanni about his first love, which meant that the little prince was finally turning eight years old. While it wasn't as big a deal as when he'd turn eighteen, you made it seem as such because he was your child and the prince. You weren't one of those parents who went overboard with birthday parties and gifts, but you made sure to make each and every one of his birthdays special in some way. This year, you decided to, with approval from your husband of course, to invite the friends he had made at his school so they could celebrate with him. In addition to his classmates, you invited Anna and Lutz's two six year old children that Giovanni had grown close to.
The whole party was going to be a surprise. You had games planned out for the kids to play, a blood cake and a regular cake made by Oliver, and snacks set out for the few human children that attended night school in his class. Everything was absolutely perfect. When the sixteenth of November rolled around, the ballroom had been decorated with balloons and streamers. Tables were set up for cake and an extra two tables were set off to the side for snacks, drinks, and presents. A few gifts were already on the present table from Luciano, yourself, and a few other castle inhabitants, such as Gilen and Matt. Giovanni was sitting in your lap as he took a nap. You sat on the couch in yours and Luciano's shared bedroom, waiting for Luciano to come get the two of you for the party. You reached for a book on the coffee table just as the door creaked open slowly.
"Moonflower, everyone that was invited is in the ballroom. Oliver's putting the finishing touches on the cakes as we speak. Whenever you're ready, we can take him to the party," Luciano in a hushed tone as he walked over to the couch.
You nodded and gave him a kiss when he leaned down. "Thank you for letting me know."
"Prego."
You shook Giovanni's shoulder gently and cooed to him, telling him to walk up. He did so slowly after asking for the stereotypical "five more minutes". He rubbed his eyes with his tiny fists as he yawned. He smacked his lips together a couple time before looking to you and your husband with an adorable tired look.
"What time is it...?"
"Nearly one o'clock, sweetheart. Your father and I have something for you."
"You do...?"
"Sì. You have to follow us to see it though."
He nodded and slowly slid off of your lap. His feet made a gentle thud as they hit the floor. You stood up after him and took his hand in yours before leading him to the ballroom. Luciano followed on the other side of the child. Giovanni let out another yawn as he walked the corridors with his parents. When you arrived at the ballroom, you opened one door as Luciano opened the other. The room was dark for a moment until the lights flickered on.
"SURPRISE!" everyone yelled as they jumped out of a hiding place.
Giovanni was startled wide awake by the sudden exclamations and clung to his father's leg. Once he realized what was going on, he let go of the elder male's leg and smiled, running to great everyone and thank them. You smiled as Luciano wrapped an arm around your waist. He kissed your cheek, and you returned the gesture.
"So, what do you have planned for them first?"
"I think you'll get a kick out of it. Alright kids! Who wants to play 'Pin the Fangs On King Romulus'?"
The kids erupted into fits of giggles and and screams of approval. Luciano chuckled as you walked away to set up the game. You hung up a large picture you paid to have replicated of a painting of the late king and gave out a pair of laminated paper fangs that had each child's name written on it. You produced a blindfold and tied it on Giovanni since he was the birthday boy. Then you spun him ten times before stopping him in the direction of the picture and gave him a small nudge forward. He put an arm out in front of himself to keep from bumping into the wall and felt around the picture until he placed the fangs where he thought his grandfather's mouth would be. The children giggled as he took off the blindfold. The fangs landed over one of his eyes. Giovanni giggled with them and handed the blindfold back to you so you could put it on the next kid so they could take their turn. After each child had their turn, the closest person to Romulus' mouth was a smaller than average human girl who often missed school due to having a poor immune system.
