Giovanni sat in silence as his father finished telling the story of his first love. The young vampire's eyebrows furrowed as he took off his glasses. His lips were pulled into a pout and his one cheek was puffed out. Luciano raised an inquisitive brow at his son. The prince tucked his glasses safely away in their case before placing it in his lap. His gaze redirected back to the elder vampire sitting next to him. He opened his mouth to say something, but he closed it quickly and returned to pouting with a pensive look on his face. It was now Luciano's turn to furrow his eyebrows.

"What?" he inquired.

"I... No, that can't be how it ends... Something else must have happened..."

"Not really. I mean, a few years later I ran away from home and became a plague doctor for a neighboring society of humans whom I had befriended and I met with geniuses such as Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci, but that was it. And of course we had the war with the humans still going on which just about lasted until you were born, but yes, that's it."

"It can't be! You found out who killed them all, right?!"

Luciano sighed and hung his head before shaking it. "No... I never did. For all I know, they could still be out there and waiting for the perfect time to strike. That's why I take so many precautions with the royal family. I don't want that to happen again, and I can't bare to even think about losing you and your mother the same way I lost the rest of my family..."

"But you didn't lose Zio Flavio or Bisnonno!"

"You're correct. I didn't lose your Bisnonno until more recently, not long before I met your mother actually, and I have a funny feeling that I'll never get rid of brother..."

Giovanni let out a giggle at that and gently patted his father's upper arm. Luciano let out a quiet chuckle of his own before pulling his child into his lap and hugging him close. The tiny child hugged him back after setting his glasses case on the sofa beside them. The elder kissed the top of the younger vampire's head.

"Ti amo così tanto, spero che tu lo sappia."

"Ti amo tanto troppo, Papa."

The two family members continued to share the tender moment until one of the doors to the room opened. You stood in the doorway with a relieved look spreading across your face. You offered the two males a smile as they looked to you. Giovanni beamed as Luciano gave you a tired smile.

"What are you two doing in here?" you inquired as you crossed your arms over your chest with a smirk. "Hiding from me, huh?"

Giovanni shook his head as he crawled off of his father's lap to stand on the floor. "Papa brought me in here to show me what a old key unlocked, and then he told me a story!"

"Is that so? What was the story about?"

Luciano took one of his son's hands in his own. "This stays between us, okay? Your mother can't know. She's not aware of what she once was."

"Sì, Papa. I won't tell her one single detail." The young, dark auburn haired male looked from his father back to his mother. "It's a secret, Mama! If I tell you, it won't be a secret anymore!"
