Chapter 19: Liar

"Charlotte did you see that money sitting on the counter?" asked Erin to Charlotte the next day as she was eating her cereal.

"No" said Charlotte quickly.

Just then Kevin walked in "Blaine and Erica are on their way over here and I expect you to sincerely apologize to them both"

"Okay" said Charlotte with just a little too much attitude.

"Charlotte! You need to drop the attitude right now!" yelled Kevin.

"Yes sir" said Charlotte.

About 30 minutes later Blaine and Erica showed up. They were in the kitchen. Blaine was standing against the counter with his arms crossed.

"I'm am really sorry about last night" said Charlotte not taking her eyes off Blaine.

"Say it to Erica" said Blaine.

Charlotte took a deep breathe to contain her anger "I'm sorry"

Blaine gave her a look.

"Can I just talk to Erica alone?"

"Charlotte..."

"I'm not gonna be mean. I just want to apologize"

"Fine. I'll be in here"

They headed outside and far enough away from the house that no one would hear them.

"Look. I know you stole the money. I watched you do it" Charlotte sternly said to Erica.

"Ya and so what? You think they are gonna believe you after you pulled that little stunt on the piano??? Blaine is getting tired of you and he isn't gonna listen to you. No one is"

Tears weld up in Charlotte eyes and she bolted away. Erica walked calmly back into the house.

"How was it?" asked Blaine.

"Fine. Everything is fine. We talked. Just a misunderstand"

"Okay good. Where did she go?"

"I think to play with the dogs"

Then they left.

Charlotte ran past her brother Nol and Brian.

"Hey" said Nol grabbing her arm, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing" said Charlotte pulling away.

"You're crying" said Brian.

"So what!" and she ran off.

"Well okay..." said Nol.

"What has gotten into her?" asked Brian.

"Jealous of Erica?" said Nol.

"I don't know. This is so not like her" said Brian.

"Well Blaine has never had a girlfriend before" said Nol.

Meanwhile in the house.

"Ethan. Do you know what happened to that money?" asked Kevin.

"What money?"

"It was on the counter"

"No"

"Well if you see it let me know. Its the money from the fundraiser for the hospital"

"Okay" said Ethan walking away.

"I don't want to say it, but some had to steal it" said Kevin.

"No. Our children would never do that" said Erin.
