Maeve POV

Michael puts an arm around Luke as we sit on the tiny couch in the hotel. The three of us are tightly packed on the couch, and let me tell you, Michael and Luke are bigger than the couch. So we have to make room. I rest my head against Michael's chest and hang my legs over the armrest.

"So are you and Ashton a thing yet?" Michael asks bluntly.

I sigh. "It's complicated. Our relationship is only supposed to be for publicity and work, but I think it might be more than that. And I'm concerned for Ash. If he gets to close, he'll end up hurt because I can never promise my safety."

"Ash really likes you. You can see it in his eyes. I'll I have to say is thank you for being concerned. We don't want to see Ashton hurt. Whatever happens, we trust you." Luke says gently.

I shake my head. "I'm too much of a bitch. I'm not good in relationships. Apparently, no one likes my attitude. I've been told that no one will ever want to date me, so I'm not keeping my hopes high."

"Maeve, you will find someone. Whether that be Ashton or someone else, you will find someone. Ashton is falling for you, just be careful, okay?" Michael assures me.

I nod. "So he's falling for me?"

Luke laughs. "He's so whipped."

At that moment, Ash walks in the room. His shirt is no where to be found, and I can't help but stare at his toned muscles. A lock of his curly hair falls in front of his face, but is quickly removed when he ties a bandana around his hair. I know that Michael and Luke caught me staring at Ash because they start to smirk.

Ash raises an eyebrow at us, but does not question us. I know that I should talk with him, so I stand up from the tangled mess on the couch. As I start walking to a different room, I beckon him to follow me. I hear Michael whisper "get some" to which I respond by raising my middle finger. Ash didn't seem to notice.

"What's up Maeve?" Ashton asks when we enter the small kitchen.

I nuzzle my way into his warm embrace. He hesitates before putting his arms around my waist and mine fall naturally around his neck. I sigh into his chest as he rubs my back with his thumbs.

"Ash, what are we?" I mumble.

He hums. "Maeve, you're a great person and I know our relationship is only supposed to be for work. So at this point, that's really up to you. I-I just want it to be something more. Is that bad?"

I smile against him, causing Ashton to smile as well. "No. But here's the fucked up part. My job is to protect you and Michael, Luke, and Cal with my life. I risk my life for you guys, and for my job. I just don't want you to get too attached in case... something happens to me." I confess.

"I won't let anything happen to you."

I snort. "Good luck with that."

Ashton ignores my comment and says, "You're my girlfriend now?"

"I guess so. Is that okay with you?"

In response, Ashton tilts my head up and places a soft kiss on my lips. A smile forms on my face, and I feel him smile back. Ashton pulls away slightly, but he leaves our foreheads touching.

"Hi girlfriend." He giggles slightly.

"Hi boyfriend." I respond, rolling my eyes.

"Can we watch a movie today?" Ashton asks sweetly.

I nod, taking his hand in my own, lacing our fingers together. Together, we make our way back to the living room where Calum has joined the tangled mess on the couch. A small giggle leaves my mouth as I see Michael petting Calum's hair. Luke is clutching onto Michael and the three boys have their legs tangled together. Man, they are a close band.

Ashton and I sit on the ground together after pilling blankets and pillows to make it more comfortable. My head finds its way to Ashton's chest after he slips his arm around my shoulders. I suddenly become warm from being so close to Ashton.

"So are you and Ashton a thing now?" Michael asks, using the same words he used only and hour ago.

I just nod in response, not turning toward him. However, I look up when Ashton asks,

"Were you guys betting on our relationship?"

I see Luke and Calum each hand Michael a twenty dollar bill. My search for a movie continues as I flip the three boys off silently. Without asking the guys, I decide to watch Whiskey Tango Foxtrot which I have already seen before. I'm so invested in the movie that I barely notice Luke stand up from the couch. He grasps my arm and guides me into the kitchen mumbling something about snacks.

When we arrive in the kitchen, I stop as he starts to reach for popcorn.

"What do you really want, Luke?" I question.

"Ash, he's my best friend. He's like another older brother to me. And to Mikey and Cal. We just are concerned for both you and Ashton. He's never really been in a relationship where he was truly happy. He always wore a fake smile and never really shared his feeling. I honestly don't know if he knows how to be in a relationship. And you, Maeve, you've already been in love. How is Ashton supposed to compete? Please just be careful with him. And if he hurts you, don't fully kick his ass. Let me have a chance too." Luke vents.

"I'll be sure to keep it in mind. Thanks Luke, but don't bet on my relationships again otherwise I'll be kicking your fucking ass."

"That's the Maeve I know."

I feel as if I had grown a second family with these guys. A close bond that I never had. Is this what everyone else experienced when they were growing up?
