Maeve POV
I flip the knife in my hand as I face away from the human shaped target. The metal feels cool in my warm hands. The sharp edge meets my finger tips, rubbing against my skin. It doesn't cut me, but I smile as I feel the sharp edge against my skin. It's been a while since I practiced against a target like this. My head clears and I instantly relax because I'm back where I feel like I belong. This is like my escape from everything around me. The small knife fits perfectly in my hands even though it's one of the smallest knives that I have.
Quickly, I spin around and through the knife at the target. It hits the head of the target and I take out another knife quickly. I throw it, aiming for the heart.
"Fuck!" I yell as it misses by four inches.
I have three more knives and I throw two at the heart. Both directly hit, proving that my second shot was just a fluke. I hear the door open, and by reflex launch the last knife at the door.
"Fucking hell!" I hear someone yell.
I turn to see Ashton at the door, the knife stuck in the wall only an inch away from his head. Laughter bubbles out of my mouth as I see his terrified face.
"Sorry." I shrug.
"S'Okay." Ashton responds causally, even though I know he's scared.
He yanks the knife from the wall and hands it back to me. I thank him and through it at the target, hitting it in the face.
"Damn. Are you always that good?" Ash asks over my shoulder.
"I'm normally better, but thank you."
He shifts closer to me as I look back to the target. Ash tugs a hand through his curly hair and puts his bandana in. Awkwardly, he clears his throat making me look back to him.
"Thanks for taking care of Cal the other day. He's feeling much better."
"No problem, he needed it. He needed someone to care for him. All of you do. I mean, you all care for each other. But I can see it in your faces, you need someone else. Do you know what I mean?"
He nods. "Yeah. It's nice to know that someone appreciates you and will care for you while on tour. Sometimes you just can't deal with tour life. It's like you're a wild animal that people are dying to see. It's terrible how we are treated differently because we're famous. It's not right, we're just normal guys."
I hear him sigh and I see him wipe his eyes. I feel bad for him, for all of them. They deserve more respect than they get. I pull Ashton into a hug. His hands wrap around my waist and he buries his head in my hair. His warm embrace makes me feel safe. I rest my head against his chest. His rhythmic heartbeat calms me.
"Thank you for everything that you've done for us, for me." He whispers in a raspy voice.
I won't lie, that was kind of hot. Wait what? I pull away from him slowly, and he smiles gratefully.
"Hey, Agent One called me earlier. You remember my boss right?" He nods. "Well we have to go out today. Just you and I."
He looks at the ground, a blush tinting his cheeks. When his eyes meet mine, he says, "Well, would you give me the honor of letting me take you out on a date?"

Mikey insisted on helping me pick out an outfit and how to do my hair. My hair has been curled, but it falls in loose curls that fall to my shoulders. I'm wearing a blue dress that's down to my mid/upper thigh. It's basically a backless dress, but it has a lot of straps in the back. It's casual, yet it could be fancy depending on how you accessorize.
To make it more on the casual side, I pair it with black converse and some thick band bracelets. I also wear a small heart necklace that hangs around my neck.
Ashton knocks on my door, and I open it to see him dressed in a black button down shirt and black skinny jeans. His hair is curlier than normal and he has a small sliver chain around his neck.
"Wow, you look beautiful." Ashton breaths.
"You don't clean up too bad yourself." I respond.
Ashton holds his hand out for me to take, and I place my hand in his. The warmth flows from his hand to mine as we leave the hotel. We are currently in Portland Oregon for two days. This first day, the boys get off and the second is photo shoots and a show.
Ashton walks me to an outdoor restaurant/cafe. The whole point of this "date" is to get the paparazzi interested in our relationship. That way, they'll focus less on the bodyguard side of me, and more of the girlfriend. I have to admit, I'm not used to going on dates. I have no idea how I should act or what I should do, but I'll just try to be natural.
When we get to our table, Ashton pulls out my seat for me. I force a blush upon my cheeks as I hear the flutter of cameras. As we look over the menu, Ashton takes my hand. I look up in surprise, but he just mouths, "trust me". We order our food and drinks and there's an awkward silence.
"Do you ever wonder what life would be like without the band?" I ask, breaking the silence.
"I've thought about it once or twice, but I honestly can't imagine where I would be without the band. I'd probably be sleeping on my mum's couch to be honest."
I laugh before saying, "Is it comfortable?"
Ashton nods while laughing. Our food arrives and we make small conversation as we eat. I learn that Ashton would do anything, I mean anything for his family. He would drop the band for them. It shows that he really cares about them.
We pay the bill, and I stand up to leave. Ash pulls me into a hug, surprising me.
"For the cameras. Spark their interest." He whispers, answering my unasked question.
When we get back inside the hotel, Ashton mumbles, "I just have to try something."
And he kisses me.
