Maeve POV
Black. That's all I see. Just eternal black. Nothing but black. It's like I'm falling into a never ending pit and there is no light. Just darkness. I try to look around me, but I can't see anything. Just emptiness. There's no one around me. Nothing at all. I try to remember the last thing I can, but I only come up with training in the gym with Agent One. That was... April I think. So it must be April right now.
Pain. Pain rushing up the right side of my body. I feel that. It's searing, burning pain. Something dripping from my shoulder, liquid. Must be blood. Pain. I look down to my shoulder, and I can see it in the darkness. A gasp escapes my lips as I see my shoulder gushing with blood. But suddenly it doesn't hurt anymore. Relief.
I blink. Whit, everything is now white. Blinding, my eyes squint in the blinding light. Everything is glowing in an eternal white shine. Why the sudden change? I glance down to my shoulder. It's perfect. No blood, no wound. Perfect shoulder, perfect me. But all too bright.
Blink. Darkness again. It flips back and forth every time. Dark. Light. Dark. Light. Dark.
"Hey Maeve." A voice nonchalantly calls my name.
I try to turn, to face the voice. It's familiar but I can't put my finger on it. I'm stuck in place, I can't move my head.
"Right here, Silly."
I blink. The blinding white light fills my eyes, but this time I can move. I see Adam, my partner while I was deployed. Tears fill my eyes as I fly into his arms sobbing. I missed him so much, I cannot believe he's here right now. His strong arms wrap around me and hold me for a while as tears fall down my face. So many emotions are flying through me right now. I pull back. He looks so perfect, no scars or wounds. His face doesn't have any imperfections on it. Not even the scar along his chin from when he got stitches when he was younger.
Adam brushes back the tears that fall from my face with the back of his hand. He gives me a soft gentle kiss on my cheek.
"Sorry for leaving you." He apologizes.
I laugh. "There's not much you can do about that."
Adam smiles a perfect smile. His teeth perfectly white and straight. The subtly chipped tooth that I had grown to love is no where to be found. Everything about him is simply just perfect. It's strange seeing this look on him, but I love it. I love him.
"Come with me, Maeve. Let me show you the things you're missing out on."
A strong hand reaches for mine, and they lock together like they are meant to be together. The coldness of his hand makes me shiver. His hands were always warm..
Suddenly, I'm being pulled forward into another reality. I see men and women in uniform. All milling about, not in formation or anything. They are just having a good time. Each person has a white glow to them, almost like an outline surrounding them. I see some of my old friends here, but mainly people I don't recognize.
"This is my home now. I live here with members of my family. Here, we stay forever young, or forever old."
A little girl runs up to Adam and flies into his arms. He easily rests her against his hip. The little blonde girl has blue eyes that match Adam's. Her hair is in two little pigtails and she is almost the spitting image of Adam.
"Maeve, meet the reason I joined the military. This is my little sister, Emmi."
In the back of my head, I know she died. This little girl died somehow. She didn't deserve death, and I don't even know her. I didn't know Adam has.. had a little sister. How did she die? It's not my place to ask at this moment in time.
"This place is fun. We don't have to worry about anything. We can do what we want. Let me show you the flip side of things."
Everything seems to go dark for a second. Then, I see myself. Laying in a hospital bed. I see Luke off to my side in a wheelchair. I look to my right and I see Michael, Calum, and Ashton all sitting in the waiting room. They all have red puffy eyes, indicating that they have been crying. No tears fall from their faces now, but they are obviously upset. Adam pulls me next to Luke.
"-just wanted to say thank you for saving my life. Whatever happens, just know that the boys and I are very thankful for all that you have done for us. We owe you a lot for protecting us and we are incredibly grateful. I'm speaking for the boys when I say this, but we would do anything for you. You put your life on the line for us and obviously we are so thankful for you. We'd all be honored if we could spend more time with you, even if it is just a little short amount. Maeve, I don't know what will happen, but everything would sure be better with you around. Whether you know it or not, you made all of us happier. So yeah, I hope you pull through."
Adam looks at me, but I continue to stare at Luke and my self. In the blink of an eye, everything turns white again and it is just me and Adam again.
"Now the choice is yours, Maeve. You can come with me, or you can stay on Earth for longer. I can't tell you what to do, that's up to you. You have the strength to do either. The decision is yours, you will make the right one."
Adam's eyes flick down to my lips. He gives me a soft kiss and suddenly he vanishes.
Now I don't know what to do. Either stay with my first love, or continue working the boys I grew to love.
I'm in a serious dilemma.
