I took a deep refreshing breath of salty air. New York Harbor laid only a mile from where our boat rested. Six weeks on the ocean with stormy nights and rolling ways during the day, it left me quite exhausted and eager to get to land. My heart pounded nervously as I gazed out at the ports and houses lining the docks just up ahead. My new life waiting to become a reality. Gulls flew up yonder screeching and flying around the shop in a beckoning way. I closed my eyes as a slight breeze caught the sails as the wind pulled us closer to shore. A crowd of people gathered on the deck of the boat as they looked at the sight in front of them. All having differed nationalities, they came to this foreign land to seek the lives they've always hoped to have. As the ship sailed into the loading dock, I smiled nervously as I picked up my bags.
"Dock!" On of the sailors shouted.
The board to exist the ship crashed down on the dock. People started to file down to the dock. My hands sweated as I followed the crowd of people. I stepped onto the wooden dock. A breath of new life sprung form my heels. I had finally arrived in America.
Quickly I began to think. Aaron Burr..Aaron Burr the named echoed in my mind. Before I got on the ship form Italy I got a letter form a man named Aaron Burr who knew my father once, and who said would mentor me here in Manhattan. Was he expecting me here or did I have to find him. I sighed as I combed my hair back with my fingers as I looked around. People bustled around, as ship bells rang and dogs barked as they ran along the docks. I began to head forward, gazing around at the sights of the foreign city. I walked away form the port and into the business part of town. I was timid to speak with anyone, my English was only good enough for me get around. I past building after building as at the end of one street I saw a small pub.
"It's worth a shot." I murmured as I walked down to the pub.
The door creaked open as I peered inside. Only a few people hung around the tables. It smelled strongly of alcohol and cigar smoke. The whole room froze when I entered. All eyes watching as I walked stiffly through the room. I spotted form the very back of the room two drunken men sat around a small table. Glasses overflowing with whiskey clashed in their hands, shouting drunkenly at each other with fits of laughter. I took a sharp breath as I headed over to their table.
"Excuse me." I spoke steadily.
The two men looked up at me.
"Can I help you?" One asked.
"I was wondering if you knew of..." I was interrupted as one bounced up as he looked brightly at me.
"Your accent it's Italian?" He asked in a very thick French accent.
"Uh..sì." I replied nervously.
"Ha, I've never seen an Italian over seas for a long time." He smiled at me.
"It's great, we're like neighbors..mon mom est  Marquis de Lafayette, a pleasure to meet you." Lafayette said as he shook my hand.
"Ezio Auditore." I replied.
Lafayette sat down as he took a sip of his mug.
"You wanna drink  while you're here?" He asked through his mug.
" Sorry I can't now, I'm actually looking for someone." I sighed.
"Fortunate for you we know every damn person in this city, who ya looking for." Lafayette said smugly.
"Aaron Burr is his name." I said.
The table grew utterly silent.
"Aaron Burr..are you sure you got the right guy?" The other man spoke up with a frown.
"I'm pretty sure." I said timidly.
"He's my new mentor for these upcoming years." I explained.
"Aaron Burr taking on an apprentice...well that's new." Lafayette murmured crossing his arms.
" His quarters are just east form here, past the old church and down a street." The other man said tossing his head towards the door.
"Gracie." I thanked the two men picking up my bags.
"Till we meet again?" Lafayette asked.
I nodded with a grin.
"Definitely." I laughed.
"Good luck kid." The other man said taking a sip form his mug.
"Au revoir." Lafayette added.
I was back in the streets. Looking down the road, trying to remember the directions as I walked towards the other side of town. It was now getter dark as the sun castes a golden glow on the tops of the buildings. I found myself passing the old church, then followed the street over. There was a house at the end of the street, a candle lit outside the door. I took a deep breath as I walked up to the door and knocked. I herd shuffling as the door opened. A formally dressed man opened the door. He raised a brow when he saw me.
" Can I help you?" He asked gruffly.
"Sir, I'm looking for a man named Aaron Burr." I spoke steadily.
"You're looking at him young man." He said cooly,
"Sorry sir, I'm Ezio Auditore the Italian immigrant and your new apprentice." I said my voice filled with confidence.
" Oh, my apologies!" Burr gasped.
"I've just been so busy I completely forgot about your arrival." He stepped to the side.
"Come in."
I walked in. The house was relatively big. Rooms branched off in every direction and a big stair well stood in front of the door leading up to presumably more rooms. My eyes shone brightly as I admired the decor. Aaron Burr noticed my expression and laughed.
" Don't get used to it, it's only a house you know?" He said.
I shrugged as I followed him upstairs and to a door.
" Here are your quarters." Burr said opening the door.
I walked in. The room was rather small but clean.
"Over there is your study, supplied with ink and paper." Burr said pointing to the corner of the room.
"If you need information there's a bigger study downstairs and to the right." He added.
I placed my bags on the bed. Burr flipped up his watch as he cursed under his breath.
"I am running late for a meeting, feel free to go out and do anything that shows interest, knowing that it's your first time here in New York." Burr huffed.
I nodded.
"Gracie sir." I said.
Aaron Burr nodded quickly as he walked out of the room shutting the door behind him. The house grew silent as the only noise I could here was the ticking of the grandfather clock. I sighed as I began to unpack my bags. I didn't have much only a few pair of clothes, some books and a pistol...
I looked at it with a frown not remembering that I packed it. I studied the pistol. On the back there was initials carved into it reading G.A (Giovanni Auditore) it was my father's pistol. I held it for a moment shaking my head. It was dark now as I grabbed a box of matches and lit the one candle that laid on my desk. It flickered as it casted shadows on the walls. I sat on the edge of my bed, cupping my face in my hands.
"My new life..." I murmmed.
