I gazed outside my window as a thick blanket of fog covered the city in an eerie atmosphere. I wrote down the last of my work before I tucked it inside a folder and got on my over coat. The stairs creaked under my weight as I walked down the stairs. The house was silent as I was the only one present as Burr and Theodoisa were at church.
I walked outside into the cold air. The towering oak trees that stood by Burr's house stood utterly still as some dead leaves still clung to the dead trees. The sound of carts rolled down the street as the houses hooves echoed off the buildings. I started my journey down to City Hall. To my relief no riots were in front of the building as I slipped inside. The halls were empty as I made my way down to my office. The whole building laid utterly silent as my footsteps echoed off the walls. Part of me took it as no big deal but the other half of me felt, weird. My mind was playing tricks on me as I walked down the desolate hall. I had to reassure myself that I was just a stupid old hallway but I couldn't help but feel paranoid when I turned the corner and down the stairs to my office.
I sighed as I finally reached my office. I lit the surroundings as I sat in my chair reviewing the papers I brought. Deep in thought, the eerie silence made me feel uncomfortable as I tried to ignore it. A sudden creak sounded outside my office. I quickly looked up from my paper as I looked over at my door. I shook my head, telling myself it was nothing. A moment passed before a sound of a door slammed shut somewhere in the building. This time I was positive it wasn't my mind playing tricks on me. No noise was uttered, no evidence of a person was able to be heard.
I cursed at myself for waiting time as I shut the door and walked back to my desk. I went back to writing before a loud bang sounded above me as it seemed like an heavy object was rolling across the floor.
"Jesus Christ!" I hissed as I stood up waking out of my office and up the stairs to investigate.
I came to the common room as I opened the door slowly and peered inside. Something caught my eye as I frowned. A globe was laying besides its pedestal as it seemed to be knocked off and rolled a couple feet away.
"Odd." I breathed as I walked over to the globe.
My heart thumped heavily as I examined the fallen globe. Something about it was strange. First of all the pedestal was still standing as it only looked like the globe fell. Another thing was that the globe weighed a lot and would take a lot of effort to pick it up and drop it for whatever reason. It didn't seem natural. With great effort I lifted the globe as I set it back in its pedestal. I stepped back looking around the room, nothing felt right. I turned my back to the globe as I carried on with my work downstairs. A glint of fear shook my hands as I finished up my work.
Weary of my surroundings I walked up the stairs and down the hall to the door. All of a sudden the loud, heavy bang sounded from the same room. I jumped back startled. My heart was now racing as I ran over to the common room, peering between a crack in the closed doors. I gasped what I saw inside. The globe was off its pedestal again as it was slowly rolling to a stop. Frozen with fear I was introduced to another sound that came from down the hallway. Abnormally heavy footsteps sounded from down the hall. Not a second passed until I was on my feet running towards the entrance, my heart beating in my head. I quickly opened the door an ran outside, closing the door behind me with a thud. I tried to steady my breathing as my head rested against the door.
What I saw that day I wound never forget. Surely it was something out of the paranormal.

A couple weeks last since the strange occurrence down at City Hall. The event still baffled me as I kept it to myself, knowing if I told others they would call me mad. The last couple of months of the year turned out to be draining. The work was overwhelming and Jefferson especially took every chance he could to try to bring my career to dirt. With cold weather rolling into the states, the whole nation seemed paranoid with each other as the two political parties fought endlessly with each other on next years election.
