Burr and I walked down the bustling street towards City Hall. Since Burr was back, I didn't have to fill in for him anymore, but so many people at City Hall offered me to stay. Without hesitation I obliged. The clock rang nine as people began to file into the building. Some people greeted Burr, asking about his time in London. I stood alongside Burr as I looked at all the people who were taking amongst themselves.
"Well I'll be damned." Thomas Jefferson's voice spoke from behind Burr and I.
We both turned to him as he strode up to us, clutching his cane in his right hand as he looked at Burr with a smile.
"Thomas Jefferson, it's so nice to see you again." Burr greeted, shaking his hand.
"How is New York's senator doing if I may ask?" Jefferson huffed.
"All is well, congratulations on becoming Vice President." Burr said.
Jefferson laughed.
" I almost didn't get nominated but thanks to Hamilton I got the position." Jefferson hissed.
Burr sighed.
"Alexander is missing an action, threw his whole career down the drain just because he couldn't keep his mouth shut." Burr murmured.
Jefferson laughed.
"That's one less thing to worry about." Jefferson amused.
I stood there silently, listening to the bickering between the two men with a dull glance. Form the corner of my eye I saw James Madison walking up to me. I gave him a slight smile.
" Good morning Mr.Auditore." He said warmly.
Madison's temper was usually cool. He didn't thrash out as much as Jefferson or anyone in that matter. He was mostly cool and collected, a main reason why we became good acquaintances.
"Morning Mr.Madison." I replied.
"It's nice to see a young and intelligent man like you in the mix of things here at City Hall." Madison remarked.
"Thank you." I said.
Suddenly we got the call that we were allowed into the meeting hall. I sat in my normal spot, Burr siting next to me. Vice President Jefferson had his own set next to John Adams. There was murmuring between the parties as we waited to begin.
"It feels nice to be back in this damn room." Burr murmured next to me.
I gave a slight laugh as I kept my gaze to the front of the room.
A door opened at the front of the room as John Adams walked out. We all stood up, welcoming his presence, a few applauded.
"Gentlemen of Congress." Adams announced raising his hand.
The room sat down as the squeaking of the wooden chairs and adjustments of coats filled the room for a few seconds before settling down.
"I thank you all for being here for today's meeting."
Adams looked out into the crowd of men. I saw Burr shift in his chair uncomfortably as Adams locked gaze with him.
"Ah yes, I would like to welcome back New York's senator Aaron Burr." Adams exclaimed.
The room fell their gaze on Burr and I. Some applauded as Burr nodded to the watching eyes. Adams cleared his throat ad he began.
"If you may know, for the past couple of months we have been in a tight situation with France." Adams began.
"The three men I set over to France to compromise a deal with the King has failed, unfortunately we would had to pay a pretty price to settle the agreement." Adams spoke.
The room rose up in anger, commotion spat at every table.
"Order! Order!" Adams yelled.
The room quieted. I looked up at Burr who looked upset his brow raised.
"Then it's war with France then!" One man spoke up.
"France is our new enemy now!" Another barked.
Adams slammed his fist on his desk.
"We must not come into any contact with France you hear!" Adams yelled.
The room hushed as they waited for more.
"Not matter what the cause is, we mustn't go to war with France." Adams hissed.
"Mr.President!" Jefferson retorted.
"What if the French attack us first?" He asked.
Adams looked cooly down at Jefferson.
"If they do we'll be ready, but not a shot will be uttered from us do you understand!" Adams hissed.
There was disagreement through the crowd of men. The meeting continued as hour ticked as I listened to all the statements men from all over the country discussed.
Once the meeting ended I gave a sigh of relief as I stood up, making my way into the main hall. Burr was called behind to discuss something to Adams.
"Those meetings are so damn long." I heard Jefferson hiss to Madison over at the door.
I huff, agreeing with his statement. Jefferson caught my glance as he gave me a sly smile.
"Hey kid, I wanna speak with you." He hissed.
I turned to him.
"Sir?" I asked.
He stepped closer to me.
"You haven't heard anything about Hamilton have ya?" Jefferson asked in a hushed voice.
I looked up at him with a dull stare, not seeing what he intrigued.
"What are you implying sir?" I asked.
Jefferson cracked a smile.
"His thoughts about the Reynolds Pamphlet, the thing that ruined his whole career." Jefferson smiled.
"I'm aware, and it's not my job to be spreading rumors." I retorted crossing my arms.
I didn't want to say anything tahr may or may not be true, and I absolutely didn't want to give away Hamilton's position. He was my friend, I wanted him to trust me.
Jefferson stepped back.
"Very well kid." Jefferson huffed.
"I know how much you care about your good friend Hamilton." Jefferson smirked.
With that he walked away to talk with some other men. I took a sharp breath as I glared at Jefferson. I didn't care for Jefferson at times, he seemed like he always taunts and takes advantage of me any second any change he got. My persistent and resentful attitude towards him was a real kicker when it came to debating with me.
"Ezio." Burr called at the door.
I turned, following him outside. The sun was sinking behind the buildings as time flew past, cramped inside the City Hall. My head ached, being in that hot stuff room for hours on a hot summers day wasn't enjoyable at all. Burr and I walked back to the house, enjoying the hum of crickets as ship bells rang in the distance.
"I'm very impressed of you reputation down at City Hall." Burr remarked.
I looked at Burr with a small smile.
"Hell, I was surprised when they called you back down once I got back form London." Burr sighed.
"Say do you want to take my job, I wouldn't mind sitting under a tree all day and relax?" Burr laughed.
I rolled my eyes.
"That will be the day." I grinned.
We walked back to Burr's quarters. Twilight crept upon us, as shadows crept along side the buildings. As we walked through the door, a burst of noise came form the kitchen as Theodoisa raced toward us.
"Oh father!" She exclaimed.
"There's going to be a summers ball this upcoming weekend and I would love to go!" She said with a big smile.
Burr gave a huff of amusement.
"Well...Theodoisa my dear." He hesitated.
"Please father, all of my friends are going, they even offered of me to get ready with them!" Theodoisa pleaded.
Burr sighed crossing his arms.
"Alright..you can go." He breathed.
Theodoisa gave a shriek of excitement as she hugged her father tightly.
"Oh thank you, thank you!" You laughed.
I laughed quietly. I was glad to see Theodoisa back to her old self again. Theodoisa ran to her room in excitement, leaving the flyer she was hold in Burr's hands. I read over Burr's shoulder.
"Summer's Ball, June 12, all his welcome...John Adams." I murmured.
"It doesn't sound so bad." I huffed.
Burr turned to me.
"You're not going are you?" He asked, his eyes narrowing.
"I couldn't see why not." I shrugged.
Burr sighed shaking his head.
"I can't stop you can I?" He grumbled.
I laughed as I watch him walked into his studies, dropping the paper as it fell to my feet.
