It was a quiet afternoon. The sun blazed down form the sky, heating the streets to a broil. I sat at my desk as I wrote about the upcoming plans Congress wanted to put into action in the next couple of years. My window was open wide as hot humid air blew into the room. I had my sleeves pulled up as I felt like a oven inside the hot stuffy room. I heard chatter of people on the streets and the clicking of horses hooves on the streets. Burr's house rested on a hill of sorts sorts so I had a breathtaking view of the city below. Suddenly there was a knock at the door.
"Hmm?" I replied, finishing a sentence as I put my quill down.
"I know your works important Ezio, but it seems like you need to take a break." Theodoisa's cheerful voice called form outside the door,
I gave a slight laugh as I looked down at my papers.
"And what is that you ask of me?" I smiled.
"How about a stroll in the park?" Theodoisa asked.
I gave a soft chuckle, looking outside my window.
"I would love to, I'll be there in a moment." I said turning back to my work.
"Ezio!" Theodoisa huffed, stamping her foot.
"Alright I'm coming." I sighed as I got up.
I rolled down my sleeves as I wiped off the ink on my hands as I followed Theodoisa down the stairs and out into the heat of the day. I looked at her admiringly, she wore her favorite green dress, her hair was up in a bun and she wore a white purl neckless. And here I stood, my hair a mess, sweat stains running under my arms and I knew I had ink smudged all over my face and hands. We strode uptown and to the park entrance. Billowing green oak trees fluttered majestically in the faint breeze. Birds chirped brightly as we strode through the park. In the middle of the park stood a fountain. My eyes shot back go to Theodoisa as I tried to think of a way to lure her over to the crisp cold water.
"Hey Theodoisa." I laughed as I jumped up on the ledge of the fountain.
She laughed as she rolled her eyes at me as I danced around the fountain rim.
"Show off." She sighed as she walked closer.
Once I got her in arms reach, I pulled her into the ledge as she gave a panicked scream. She stepped on my shone as I backed up in response. I caught the edge as I felt myself fall backwards. I tried to regain my balance but it was no use. With a crash of water I fell into the fountain. I looked back at Theodoisa with an embarrassed smile. She was bent forward laughing so hard tears began to form form the corner of her eyes. I laughed with her as I tried to get out of the fountain, slipping as I almost fell again. I climbed out of the fountain soaking wet. I shook my head like a dog as water flung everywhere. Theodoisa screamed as she back up trying not if get wet.
She looked up at me with an amused look. She came up to me in her tippy toes as she combed back the wet hair that was seeping into my eyes. She stopped as she looked into my eyes. We were almost touching noses but she looked hesitant as she stepped down.
I watched her walk onward without another word. I paused, thinking. Did I do something wrong? I shook the feeling away as I caught up to her as we walked together through the rest of the park. The sun was setting over the park as crickets hummed in the bushes as we passed. We finally got back to the streets as we slowly walked back to Burr's quarters. I gazed down at Theodoisa warmly. It faded when I saw her eyes filling up with tears. I stopped, a concern looked was now plastered on my face.
"Is everything alright?" I asked.
Theodoisa glanced up at me, shaking her head.
"It's nothing." She responded.
Again with that answer. It bothered me, if there was something going on with Theodoisa I could try to help her but if she doesn't say anything that doesn't help me at all.
"Hey." I said with a sharp tone.
Theodoisa looked up at me with a worried, almost scared expression.
"I know something is wrong." I said.
"If something's bothering you, you can tell me." I said my tone softening.
Theodoisa stared at me, anger filled her eyes.
"Like I said nothing is bothering me Ezio." She growled.
"Why do you care anyways." Theodoisa chocked.
I blinked as I looked down at Theodoisa with a comforting gaze.
"Because I care about you Theodoisa, if there's something troubling you please I want to help you." I cooed.
Theodoisa looked up at me with a harsh glare.
"I don't need your help, please Ezio...just leave me alone." Theodoisa yelled.
She fell silent as she turned away. I saw tears crawl down her face as she walked off. I sighed shaking my head. I did feel bad for Theodoisa, I wanted to help her but if she doesn't all me to, I guess there's nothing I can do. I trailed behind Theodoisa as we walked back to the Burr's residence. Theodoisa crept off to her bedroom without another word. I found Burr in his study as he was flipping through some books, jotting down notes in the process.
"Good evening Ezio." Burr mumbled as he looked up form his work for a brief second.
"Good evening sir." I replied.
I walked around his desk as I peered over his shoulder.
"More bills and tax refunds?" I asked, remembering I had to do a lot of them when Burr was gone.
Burr sighed.
"Unfortunately, some people just aren't satisfied with what they already have." Burr grumbled.
I gave a huff of amusement.
"Well I'll leave you to it." I said as I existed the study.
"Oh Ezio." Burr called
I turned.
"Sir?" I asked.
"You're needed down at City Hall early tomorrow morning, for what I do not know, I just got word form John Adams a couple hours ago." Burr said.
I shook my head as I sighed.
"Alright I'll be there." I murmured.
Burr gave a quick laugh as I walked out of the study. I walked up the stairs and into my room. I shuffled the papers on my desk as I read though them, staying up for another long night.
