Hamilton and I walked down the crowed streets of New York. Everyone was bustling around in the heat of the day as they took time to themselves on a Sunday afternoon.
"Ezio, your progress has shown to be very impressive for a man of your age." Alexander began.
"Intelligent beyond comprehension and a keen eye too."
I laughed.
" Thank you sir." I replied.
"When Burr ever gets back from London he'll be blown away by your skill." Alexander amused.
I nodded with a small smile. From all the faces we pasted I recognized one of them. The women that I saw with Alexander about a year ago was walking towards us. I saw her brown eyes flicker up at me when we passed. I turned around as I watch her pass, her hips swaying side to side. I took a short breath before turning back to meet Hamilton's gaze. He looked uneasy as he rapped his fingers on his pants.
"Is everything alright?" I asked.
His eyes flickered down to mine.
"Yes?" He said questionably.
I sighed.
"Alright, you just looked uneasy there for a moment." I replied.
Hamilton gave a nervous laugh.
I returned my gaze at the cobblestone street, saying no more. We walked in silence the rest of the way down the street, stopping at a intersection. All of a sudden a voice snapped from behind us. We both turned. Thomas Jefferson approached us with Madison following behind him.
"Well look who it is, Mr.Loudmouth." Jefferson jeered.
Hamilton crossed his arms not pleased.
"What do you want?" Hamilton asked in a bothered tone.
"You thought you get just get away with something that big Mr.Hamilton?" Jefferson smiled sickly.
Hamilton took a short breath.
"I don't know what you mean." He breathed.
Jefferson laughed.
" See how he lies!" Jefferson sneered.
"We all know about your little "affair" Mr.Hamilton...you thought you could hide it from us." Jefferson said his tone cold.
I kept my gaze down at the shoes of the three men, wondering what this all meant.
"...We'll discuss this latter." Hamilton stammered a bit surprised.
Jefferson sighed shaking his head.
"Fine, tomorrow night down at City Hall..we'll settle it then." Jefferson hissed.
With that the two men passed us, Jefferson giving me a hard stare as they walked away. I looked back at Hamilton with an anxious glare.
"Those damn fools...can't keep their mouths shut for ones own peace." Hamilton sighed.
I began to worry, taking a deep breath.
" Sorry to hasten this outing but I must get back home, thanks for accompanying me Ezio." Hamilton said with a small smile.
I nodded.
" Thank you sir." I replied.
Hamilton gave me a brief nod before he walked up the street, leaving me with a concern expression. I sighed walking the other way, shoving my hands deep into my coat pocket. I still had a slight limp at times, the pain still lingered in my chest from when I was shot what seemed a million years ago. I paced the streets as the sun dipped lower into the sky. Eventually I pondered my way back to Hamilton's quarters.
I entered as I walked into the living room. Alexander, Eliza and Philip stood around a man. They turned when they saw me enter, the man in a black coat turned to me.
" Are you Ezio Auditore?" He asked in a booming voice.
I slowly nodded.
"Yes sir." I said with a slight bow.
"Mr.Auditore, I have received a letter that has been addressed for you and was told by Aaron Burr who is currently in London that I would send it to you." The man spoke handing me a letter.
I took the letter slowly, opening it. With a concern face wondering who it was from, in eloquent writing the letter read."Mr.Ezio Auditore,
I am here to inform you that on July 25 1797, Fredrico Auditore passed away due to a sudden illness. He is buried in English Cemetery, Florence. He was known for helping pass trades through Italy during the war and is pronounced a hero in Florence's name.
Con Amore, Celia Paula (our family's old caretaker)."I lowered the note, taking a long staggering breath. I blinked as tears began to form around the corner of my eyes, taken back by the information I just read.
"Thank you." My breath hitched with pain.
I stood still for a moment in utter silence all looked at me with a worried look. Then without another word I walked up to my room, shutting the door behind me. I looked at my desk, All the letters I wrote to my Uncle...
I sat down at my desk covering my face with my hands. My Uncle was the last person that I ever loved in my family. He took care of me when my parents passed away. I remembered he would tell me stories about his adventures at seas when he was young...how I loved them so. He was the one who made it possible for me to even be here.
My heart ached as I grieved in my own thoughts for hours. Deep in my own thoughts I didn't hear a soft knock at the door. The door creaked open as Philip walked in.
"Hey Ezio." He said softly.
I blinked as I turned to Philip my jaw clenched.
"I heard what happened, I just wanted
to say I'm sorry." He said sympathetically.
I took a deep breath, as I gave Philip a small smile.
"It's nothing you should be worried about." I said my voice raspy.
Philip came up to me, placing his hand on my shoulder.
" If there's anything you want to talk about, please don't hesitate." Philip reassured.
"Thank you Philip." I murmured.
Philip gave me a friendly smile as he walked to the door, pausing he turned around.
"Hang in there friend." He sighed before leaving the room.
I took a relaxed breath, smiling at the thought.Weeks ticked by, still busy as ever as I had my neck tied around a noose down at City Hall. Luckily for Jefferson, Hamilton wasn't showing up to the regular meetings. In fact, Hamilton became very silent all of a sudden.
One day I was walking home form City Hall, when a boy standing on a box called out to the crowd of people. I stopped as I looked curiously at the boy, wondering what he had to say.
"Extra! Extra!" He called holding up a newspaper.
"Alexander Hamilton looses his seat, and crutches his chances for being president by posting the "Reynolds Pamphlet", accusing James Reynolds out of secrecy, by blackmailing him money for over a year to hide Alexander's affair with a James's wife, Maria Reynolds!" The boy announced.
I blinked, my jaw hung open, not believing what I just heard. I walked up to the papers boy, grabbing a papers as my eyes quickly read over the fine print.
"Jesus Christ...what have you done." I hissed.
I folded the paper and slid it into my coat pocket as I made my way strait towards the Hamilton's residence. Anger burned under my skin, wondering why the hell Hamilton would do such a thing. I paused at the door as I heard yelling inside. Angelica (who I met a few days ago) was barking at who I assumed to be Hamilton.
"I can't believe you, what you did to your family...what you did to your poor wife!" Angelica yelled, her voice distressed almost sounding like she was in tears.
I stood there for a moment before opening the door, my heart pounding in my head. I saw Angelica rush past me, Eliza clutched in her arms, her face stained with tears. I took a unsteady breath as I watched them pass. I glared back at Hamilton, who stood alone in the living room. God, I wished he felt the guilt that he deserved.
"Alexander Hamilton." I bit.
"Ezio.." He said, almost relived of my presence.
"I need to talk to you...now." I said, my tone flat as hot air escaped my mouth.
Alexander's calm expression immediately dropped as he looked at me almost in a fearful way. I glared at him as I passed him and lead him to the back yard. A small candle box hung from the door, casting only little light where we stood. I took a deep breath as I locked my gaze on Hamilton.
"Did something not click inside your head?" I spat.
"Do you know how much pain and suffering you put only your family, especially your wife?"
Hamilton looked down at the ground.
"Ezio...listen..I..I didn't mean it how it came to be." Hamilton said softly.
"Did you not think there was going to be major consequences for writing the Pamphlet, at least you could of down was to confess personally instead of having your futile writing do the dirty deed for you!" I breathed, my tone rising with each word.
I shook my head, enraged in my own thoughts.
"Maybe Burr was right about you, a foolish who can't just keep his mouth shut." I murmured.
Hamilton took a shaky breath, before he could say anything I walked back inside leaving Alexander in the dark. I paused at the door, I glint of sorrow crawled through my skin. I pushed it down as I walked into the living room. The house was quiet except for some murmuring of voices upstairs. Philip was no where to be seen. I took a deep breath, feeling sorry for Philip and all of his siblings having to go through this. I blinked as tiredness swept through me. I walked up the stairs slowly, waking past Eliza's room as I heard Angelica trying to comfort her. I walked into to my room, closing the door. I laid down on my bed, my thoughts clouding my vision.
Ever since I've been staying with the Hamilton's, I've always cared about the sweet family...now it seems like it was falling apart...
