Days turned into weeks and weeks into months. It was now late summer, and still I was busy every second. Aaron Burr always seemed stressed. Working down at New York City's Hall most of the days, making deals with congress and the three government branches.
I walked the streets of the sweltering city, seeing more familiar faces every time I passed through the streets. I was informed to meet Burr down at city hall once the congressional meeting had been dismissed for today. While stopped at a intersection I felt a hand on my shoulder as I whirled around. A familiar face grinned back.
"Lafayette?" I asked my mouth cracking into a grin.
"Ezio how are you, I haven't seen you for sometime." He said.
" Aaron Burr as kept me on my toes constantly, it's hard to take a break form it all." I sighed rolling my eyes.
"That damn fool is working to hard and for what?" Lafayette laughed.
I looked questionably at Lafayette.
" Well I guess he knows what he's doing." I shrugged.
Lafayette gave a huff as he crossed his arms.
"Anyways do you have some time on your hands?" Lafayette asked.
"Yeah..?" I asked with a frown as Lafayette eyes gleamed with a mischievous look.
" Well, I want you to meet me at the docks when the clock strikes three in a morning." Lafayette said lowering his tone.
"Umm..." I stammered.
"Great, see you then!" Lafayette exclaimed giving me a hard pat on the back.
I stood my mouth agape as I watched him walk away a stride in his step.
" Alright...see you then." I sighed.
I carried on my way down the street towards city hall. The bell tower rang six as men began to file from the hall. Form among the aristocratic men I recognized Alexander Hamilton as we made eye contact. He smiled walking towards me. He looked ruffled, his hair a mess with his face red and dark circles rested under his eyes.
" Ezio Auditore." Hamilton smiled as he approached me.
" Mr.Hamilton sir." I said with a nod.
"It's nice to see you alive and well, walking these streets of New York City."
"Barely, Aaron Burr has worked me half to death." I laughed.
Hamilton shook his head sympathetically.
"Well his work is paying off, Burr talks good stuff about you Auditore." Hamilton remarked.
" Ezio!" A voice called form behind us.
I turned as Burr marched up to us.
" Let's go." Burr hissed making a unfriendly glance at Hamilton.
I turned back to Hamilton.
" It was nice seeing you again sir." I said.
Alexander gave me a quick smile as it faded when he looked at Burr's sullen glance. I caught up to Burr who seemed quite angry.
" Don't be too flustered Mr.Burr, Hamilton is a respectful man." I glared at Burr my voice rising to a defensive tone.
" The poor bastard, always looking ahead of him and not what's under him." Burr growled.
"And if I was you Mr.Auditore, I would follow someone who knows what our nation needs."
I bit my lip, anger burned through my gaze but I kept my mouth shut. We walked home in silence as the sun soon set over the bustling city.
I hurried up the stairs closing my bedroom door behind me. I sighed as I closed my eyes, covering my face with my hands. Then I remembered I had a meeting with Lafayette in the early morning for what purpose I did not know.
" Damnit." I hissed through my breath.I was woken at the chime of two. I shook the sleepiness form my head as I got out of bed and got dressed. I slowly opened my bedroom door as I looked around. The house was completely dark except for the slim rays of moonlight creeping in from the windows. I tiptoed down the stairs and out the door.
I silently walked down the dark, desolate street. My footsteps echoed off the sleeping houses as I past. I found my way down the docks, my eyes sharp as I turned every corner. I saw a shadowed figure in the distance. I froze, my eyes narrowing as I stepped closer. The figure turned around.
"Ezio, is that you?" Lafayette called silently.
"Sì." I said giving a sigh of relief.
"Glad you could make it." He said as he patted me on my back with a small grin.
Lafayette looked out to where a ship was docked. Lanterns flicked form the boat as men bustled up and down the ship carrying crates and luggage.
" Who are they?" I asked as we now hid behind a few barrels.
" For the past few months I have observed various British gangs roaming the ports at night to there reasoning...I know it's not good." Lafayette hissed.
"So that's why we need to stop them.." He added.
"We..?" I asked.
Lafayette nodded as he crept backwards.
" My friend Hercules Mulligan is waiting with a box of explosions on the other side of the ship." Lafayette explained with a sly smile.
I stared at Lafayette dumbfounded.
" That is why we need you to make a distraction so Mulligan and I can blow this ship to pieces." Lafayette said a gleam in his eye.
" You can't be serious." I hissed.
Lafayette laughed.
" Don't you worry kid, we're not going to hurt anyone, we're just showing these fools who's in control of this country." Lafayette explained.
I took a deep breath shaking my head.
"Damnit Lafayette, I will never agree with you." I spat.
"Come on Ezio, let's teach these bloody redcoats who's boss." Lafayette jeered.
I took a long breath. The war is long over you know!
"Fine." I hissed.
"Great!" Lafayette exclaimed quietly.
I was suddenly shoved from my spot and out into the open. I looked back to where we were hiding. Lafayette was gone. I cursed under my breath as I walked over to the British ship, thinking of what to say. One noticed me as he approached.
" Oy, state your business." He shouted eyes narrowing.
The rest of the party looked up form what they were doing and gathered around me.
"I just wanted to say how shit your ship looks." I grinned.
I could feel their hot air on my skin.
"Excuse me?" Another said a rifle pointed strait at me.
My heart sped up as I tried to think of something else to say before I got shot.
" I'm just saying, your ship is pathetic, I'm surprised you don't feel shameful sailing around with the kings name written all over it." I huffed looking at the angered men.
Something caught my eye as I spoke to the men. A saw Lafayette with his friend now stationed on the other side of the ship. I flashed my gaze back to the men, not wanting to arise any suspicion.
"How dare you!" The man with the rifle said shoving it into my side.
"Hey..hey now." I said a little panicked.
I paused as I saw Lafayette giving me a nod indicating that the were ready.
" What in the hell is that!" I yelled.
The fuse kicked as a bright spark of fire exploded form the ship. The men scared to death scrambled to their feet in all the commotion. Once all eyes were off me I ran. My heart pounded in my chest as I ran form the docks and hid in a alleyway. Gasping for breath I looked behind me the street was dead quiet. I took a sigh of relief but it was cut short as I remembered Lafayette and Mulligan.
"Cazzo!" I hissed.
I turned back to the street thinking. Suddenly a hand grabbed my shoulder. I gave a gasp of fear as I whirled around. To my relief if was just Lafayette. His eyes beamed at me as he began to laugh.
"We did it!" He shouted with much exhilaration.
Behind him approached Mulligan, he looked curiously down at me.
"This is the kid who helped us?" He asked crossing his arms.
" Yes, this is my friend." Lafayette said turning to Mulligan.
" Ezio Auditore." I greeted.
Mulligan huffed shaking my hand.
" Hercules Mulligan, nice to meet ya kid." He smiled.
Lafayette slapped my back with such force it almost knocked the wind out of me.
" You did a hell of a job distracting those gang members, almost got a little nervous when I saw one point a gun strait towards you." Lafayette chuckled.
I grinned as I shook my head.
" How about a round for our victory?" Lafayette cheered.
"Sounds good to me." Hercules laughed.
" Ezio?" Lafayette asked.
" Uh...sure." I murmured.
I followed Lafayette and Hercules through the desolate city, towards the bar. We walked in, no one was insight but the bar tender who gave us cold stares as we walked to the far table, the same one where I first met Hercules and Lafayette. We were passed each a pint of Sam Adams as it foamed down the glass and onto the table.
" Let's have this round for our new friend Ezio Auditore!" Mulligan announced.
We clinked glasses as we chugged down the sour whiskey. My mind fuzzed, as I felt the alcohol kick in. We laughed and talked till the first rays of sunlight streamed through the bar window. I looked at the grandfather clock that stood on the other side of the room that read five.
"Oh no." I hissed.
" Listen I got to go guys." I said standing up form the table.
"Leaving so soon." Lafayette slurred a smug look on his face.
I glared at him as I watch him chug down the rest of his beer.
" Sorry I must get back to Burr's residence before he suspects a thing." I sighed.
" Thank you for the drinks guys."
"See you around Ezio!" Lafayette called a bit to loudly as I walked towards the door.
" See ya kid." Hercules waved.
I gave the two men a smile before waking out the door and making my way up the streets in the peaceful morning air. As a new day lowered itself upon the awakening city.
