The Mermaid Life

Chapter 3

I walked Kelsey home when we got off the bus. "Are you sure you're ok? You've been acting weird since lunch." Kelsey had real concern in her voice.

"Ya, I'm fine." I continued to stare ahead. Ever since Hunter talked to me about things I haven't told anyone, it creeped me out.

"I don't believe you." We had reached her house and she was pulling her keys out of her purse.

"Believe me. I'm fine. I gotta go. My mom and I are going out." I said goodbye and walked the short distance home.

My mom and I went out to the movies. We saw the one we've been dying to see, Sex Tape. It was a girls night out.

The next day was the same as yesterday except better. It was my 16th birthday. Hunter ruined it by telling me things he knew about me. I was thinking about telling the principle but I decided against it.

At lunch, I was sitting alone at at a table in the far corner. Cam had swim practise and Kelsey was at a dentist appointment.

"Can I join you? You look lonely." I looked up to see Hunter holding his lunch of poutine. 

"Sure." I moved my tray of untouched lasagna so he could set his lunch down.

"Happy birthday." Hunter said after he sat down. He handed me a little blue box with white ribbon.

I took it from him hesitantly. "Thanks." I opened it to find a little mermaid necklace. I smiled. "It's pretty." I picked it out and put it on. It rested right above my breasts.

"Your welcome." He paused. "I want to apologize for creeping you out with all the facts about you."

"Where did you learn all that stuff about me?" I looked at him with an expressionless face.

"I can't tell you just yet." He opened his lunch and started to eat it.

"Not yet? What do you mean not yet?" I raised an eyebrow at him.

He smiled a small smile. "You'll know." He stood up, picked up the rest of his lunch and walked away.

I didn't see him for the rest of the day.

After school me and Kelsey walked home together, like always. When I reached my house there was a black car in the driveway.

What?? I thought as I stared at the car. It's not one of my mom's friends cars, I know that for certain.

"Mom, I'm home!" I yelled as I walked into my kitchen, throwing my bag and stuff on the table. Hmm? One of the kitchen chairs is missing... I wondered.

As I walked into the living room I saw my mom tied up in the missing kitchen chair.

"MOM!!!"

"No, Serena don't come any closer!" said my mom.

I didn't listen to my mom. All I cared about was if she was hurt and I wanted to save her.

"Mom, I'm gonna get you out of this," I said as I cried trying to undo the knots that held my mom captive.

"Serena, listen to me. You need to run, go to Kelsey's. I'm not ready for him to take you."

"Wait. Who?? What do mean take me? What are you talking about!?" I was now crying like a baby when they didn't get what they wanted.

My mom wouldn't meet my eys. "Serena, go, you need to run, NOW!!"

Just as I was about to say no, someone came up from behind me and grabbed me.

"NO!!! MOM!!!! I'M NOT LEAVING WITHOUT YOU!! MOM!!!!"

I was crying as this man was taking me away.

"Be quite, Serena," said the man.

I stopped struggling at the sound of his voice, it was familiar but from where? Wait, what am I doing? I thought as I continued to struggle.

Suddenly, I felt this extreme pain in the side of my head.

My mom was crying out to me as my vision blurred. "SERENA!!"

That's when everything went black.
