Serena's POV

My mom was hugging me as I cried on her shoulder. "It's ok, baby. It's ok." She kept repeating it over and over until I stopped crying.

I pulled back and wiped my eyes. "Mom." I smiled and hugged her again before we stood up.

Hunter cleared his throat behind me.

I turned. "Mom, this is Hunter. My boyfriend."

My mom went from happy to angry. She took a step towards him, reeled her hand back and slapped him. His head snapped sideways as my mom's hand came in contact with his face. Hunter didn't seem fazed by the fact that he was slapped.

"Mom!" I stepped up beside her to see tears in her eyes.

"How you can you date this kidnapper?" She said 'kidnapper' like it was a rat in the house.

"Mom, it's ok. Nept- my father made him. It was the only way to make sure I phased properly." I tried to calm her down.

She looked at me like I had three heads. "Your father?"

"Ya, he's helped me learn so much about being a mermaid." I tried to keep a straight face even though I was lying to her. He hasn't helped me, it was Hunter that helped me.

"Oh, honey," she turned and faced me. "I'm sorry you had to find out this way."

I smiled. "It's ok. You couldn't have told me anyway."

She smilied a small smile.

"I'm sorry I took your daughter from you, but Neptune told me too. And today is the day I bring your daughter back-" Hunter was cut off by my mom.

"She's able to come back?" She looked like the happiest person in the world.

"Um, no. But she's able to stay here for the day."

"Oh, I see." She sounded very upset. She suddenly perked up. "Well, what are we waiting for? I don't want to waste my day with my daughter standing here."

I smiled excited to spend the day with my family.

After shopping at the mall for 2 hours, my mom took Hunter and I back to my moms house. She had finally excepted that Hunter's my boyfriend. She is still not too pleased about it, though.

We walked into our small kitchen from the double sliding door that lead to our 'back yard'. It's really a public beach.

Our kitchen looks like any other kitchen. It has an island with bar stools and lots of counter space with an oven, stove, fridge and sink. The walls are a teal blue to match the handles on the cupboards. The counter top is a light grey marble.

"Tea?" My mom asked us, as she put the kettle on with tea bags in it.

"No, thanks, Ms. Webber. Tea can actually cause a mermaid to get sick." He looked at me when we said that.

"Oh, please, call me Karen," my mom said.

"Really? I didn't know that." I asked, "Why?"

"It's the seasons on the tea. It's unhealthy for us."

"Oh." I was disappointed. I really wanted some tea!

"Well, no need for the kettle then."

Hunter looked at me confused, like why isn't she having a cup?

"My mom doesn't like tea." I answered his unasked question.

"Never really li-" My mom was interrupted my a knock on the door.

"I'll get it." I got up off the stool and walked down the short hall to the front door. I opened it up at froze, in happiness and sadness.

"Hey," said my best friend, Kelsey.
