The Sinclairs [Riverdale AU]

Prologue.

"Do that again, Owen, and I will shove this fork up your ass," River said holding her fork up and pointing it at her adopted brother who had just stolen a fry off her plate.

"Your food just looks much more appealing than mine," Owen said while looking at River's plate making her roll her eyes.

"We got the same damn thing," River said making Owen and Jughead chuckle. The three of them were eating lunch in the courtyard, they were sitting behind Betty Cooper's lunch table.

"So, Jug. It's a new school year, are you going to ditch the beanie?" Owen asked his best friend and Jughead just glared at him.

"That depends, are you going to ditch the attitude?" Jughead retorted and River laughed. She looked up from her plate just in time to see a raven haired girl with pearls approach Betty Coopers table.

"Hot new girl at twelve o'clock," River muttered while looking at her. Owen quickly turned around to see what his sister was talking about and his eyes widened.

"Who in the holy hell is she?" Owen asked the table and Jughead rolled his eyes at the Sinclair siblings.

"Veronica Lodge, new girl." Jughead said before looking back at his laptop. He was writing a novel about Jason Blossom.

"Wait, Lodge as embezzlement and fraud?" River asked him and Jughead nodded not looking up from his laptop.

"Shit. I'll let her embezzle me anytime," Owen said and River scrunched up her nose before throwing a lettuce leaf at him.

"I call dibs," Owen said and River shook her head.

"No the fuck you don't. I'm going to ask her out first," River said whispering the last bit so only the three of them could hear.

"How are you going to ask her out, if you can't even bring yourself out of the closet?" Owen retorted and River gasped. Jughead blew out a puff of air before shaking his head at his best friend.

"Woah, dude low blow," Jughead said and Owen raised an eyebrow at him before looking at him sister.

"Was it? Sorry Riv," Owen said apologising to his sister who just shrugged in response.

"It's okay, you are right. Hopefully I find the strength to come out of the closet this year, it's not as easy as it sounds," River said and Jughead nodded in agreement. The only people who knew about Rivers sexuality was her brother and Jughead.

"It's true," Jughead said agreeing with River and Owen shot him a look.

"How would you know? Are you coming out to us, Jug? Are you gay? Do you have a crush on me? Because I have that effect on people," Owen said cockily and River and Jughead both rolled their eyes.

"I'm not gay, and even if I was I wouldn't even look at you twice," Jughead said and River laughed.

"Besides, you know this, I've told you before. I'm Ace," Jughead shrugged and Owen shot him a look of confusion making River roll her eyes.

"Ace is short for Asexual. It means Jughead has no sexual attraction to anyone of any gender," River explained to her brother and Jughead nodded in agreement.

"Oh, so you aren't even a little bit attracted to me?" Owen asked Jughead and Jughead rolled his eyes before closing his laptop and standing up.

"I'm going somewhere else to work on my novel. Bye River, Bye Stupid," Jughead said before walking away and River laughed while Owen rolled his eyes.

River's eyes fell back onto Veronica who was talking happily too Betty, Kevin and Archie.

"When I do come out, I want her to be the first person I ask out," River said to her brother and Owen scoffed.

"Not if I ask her out first," Owen said smirking and River threw another lettuce leaf at him.

"Dick." River said and Owen shrugged before taking a swing of his water.
