Chapter Fourteen- Water isn't Wet.

"When you take a fish out of water, it is then considered wet, but when the fish is in the water, the fish isn't wet. Therefore water isn't wet," Owen said to his sister. River and Owen were sitting on a lunch table in the cafeteria having a heated debate.

"I'm telling mom, you take drugs," River said and Owen shook his head.

"It's not drugs. It's science. Water isn't wet." Owen said and River rolled her eyes.

"Water is wet!" River said her tone laced with frustration and Owen just shook his head.

"So, you're telling me that a fish in water is dry?! Is that what you're fucking telling me Owen?" River asked her brother and Owen nodded before Owen could reply Jughead approached the table.

"What did I just walk in on?" Jughead asked while sitting down next to River and opposite Owen.

"Owen, is trying to tell me that water isn't wet. Help me, Jug," River said and Jughead shrugged.

"Water isn't wet." Jughead said and River looked at him in disbelief while Owen smirked.

"See, this is why me and Jughead are best friends. The dude just gets me," Owen said while fist bumping Jughead.

"Water is fucking wet." River said to the two boys and they both shook their heads.

"Riv, Water itself cannot be wet," Jughead explained and River rubbed her temples.

"So you're telling me, that a fish in water is dry and it's air that makes it wet?" River asked them and they both nodded.

"Precisely. Stay woke," Owen said while biting into his apple.

"So, when a fucking submarine is under water, it is fucking dry?" River asked the boys and they nodded.

"But you guys think air is dry?" River asked them and they nodded.

"But water isn't wet?" River asked and both the boys nodded and River let out a breath of frustration before rubbing her temples.

"So what the fuck is water?! If it's not wet what the fuck is it?" River asked and Owen shrugged.

"Water is water," Owen said as if it is that simple and River just looked at him in disbelief.

"Are you high?" River asked her brother seriously and he just shook his head.

"River, if water is wet does that mean we're wet? Since we are made out of mostly water?" Jughead asked and before River could reply Owen spoke.

"But our skin is waterproof," Owen said and River looked between the two boys with a look of disbelief and frustration. Before she could reply Betty sat down at the lunch table next to Owen.

"Hey, what are you guys talking about?" Betty asked and River slammed the palms of her hands on the table before standing up.

"Water is wet and boys are stupid." River said before grabbing her backpack and walking away. Betty shoot the boys a look of confusion and they just shrugged.

River was in the girls locker room changing into her gym clothes when Veronica approached her.

"Hey, River," Veronica said and River smiled at her, they haven't spoken since River accidentally came out to her three days ago.

"Hey, Veronica. What's up?" River asked while changing out her clothes. River took off her t-shirt leaving her in a grey sports bra, Veronica quickly glanced down before shaking her head and looking back up at River.

"Me and Archie, broke up," Veronica said and River had to stop herself from squealing.

"I'm sorry. What happened?" River asked and Veronica shrugged before leaning on the locker next to Rivers gym looker.

"It wasn't a big thing. We are still going to be friends but I'm still kinda upset that we didn't work out," Veronica said and River nodded in understanding.

"Well, you want to come over to my house tomorrow and we can eat raw cookie dough and make our own sushi and watch dance moms? I would've said today, but I have work." River suggested awkwardly and Veronica raised an eyebrow at her before nodding.

"I would like that. I haven't had sushi since I left New York so I'm down. I'll give you my number after gym," Veronica said and River smiled before nodding.
