Chapter Fifteen - Brownies and Astronauts.

River was sitting in her basement alone,after a shift at pops, and was watching project runway reruns.

"Hey, lil sis," Owen said walking into the basement and shrugging off his backpack and sitting down on the couch.

"I'm two months older than you," River said not taking her eyes of the television screen and Owen shrugged before unzipping his backpack and pulling out a ziplock bag of brownies.

"Whatever. Want a brownie?" Owen offered handing her the bag and River shrugged before nodding and taking one and handing the bag back to Owen who also took one.

"These are really good," River said and Owen nodded in agreement before handing his sister another one.

After her second brownie, River reached for a third but Owen shook his head before taking the last one and shoving it into his mouth.

"Where did you even get those from? Mom didn't make brownies today, did she?" River asked him and Owen just shrugged.

"So I was in detention today and Paul, you remember Paul right? The one that got a growth spurt at the age of six?" Owen asked and River nodded.

"Paul, just gave them to me," Owen said and River's eyes widened before she smacked her brother on the head.

"You took brownies form Pothead Paul?!" River asked and Owen looked at her in confusion before his eyes widened. He looked at the empty ziplock bag before looking at his sister.

"You don't think the brownies-" Owen began but River interrupted him.

"The fucking brownies had pot in them!" River shouted before standing up and walking to the toilet to try throw them up but it didn't work.

"Dad, is going to kill us," River said walking out  of the toilet and starting to pace and Owen stood up to try calm his sister down.

"Look, maybe they won't even work. Maybe they didn't even have pot in them. We will be fine. Trust me," Owen said while putting his hands on his sisters shoulders and River nodded hoping for the best.

Three hours later Owen and River were laying on the basement floor.

"Dude, of watermelons are a thing, why aren't there firemelons and Airmelons," River asked and Owen gasped.

"Dude, mind fuck," Owen said and River giggled.

"Did you know, that the word Sand is basically a ship name for sea and land," Owen said and River laughed.

"I ship sea and land. They would look so good together, they should get married," River said and Owen nodded in agreement before laughing making River start laughing. Seconds later the pair were in hysterics.

"Hey guys, I saw my dad today. Your mom said dinner will be ready soon," Jughead said walking into the basement but trailing off when he saw his friends laughing for no reason.

"What's the joke?" Jughead asked walking up to them and they just kept on laughing.

"Dude, astronauts are so cool. They sailed around the whole wide world just to prove the world isn't flat," River said and Jughead looked at her in confusion before shaking his head.

"What? Don't you know what an astronaut is?" Jughead asked and Owen laughed before replying.

"Dude, astronauts sail boats," Owen said and Jughead shot him a look of confusion.

"The sky looks amazing. Look at the sunset," River said while pointing up at the ceiling and Owen nodded in agreement. Jughead looked up at the ceiling in confusion before looking at his friends.

"Did you guys smoke pot?" Jughead asked them seriously and the pair started to laugh hysterically.

"No, Dude. We ate it." River said and Jughead's eyes widened.

"Why the fuck- where did you guys even get- I'm so confused." Jughead said and Owen laughed.

"Paul, gave it to me. He's such a good guy," Owen said and River nodded before laughing again and Jughead rubbed his temples.

"River why would you eat an edible? Especially when your parents are upstairs?! I expect this from Owen but not from you," Jughead said and River and Owen started laughing again.

"Guys, this is serious. Stop laughing," Jughead said seriously and they just started laughing again.

"Your parents are expecting you upstairs for dinner in like five minutes and your dad is a cop," Jughead said trying to reason with them but they weren't listening. Jughead sat down on the couch and tried to think of a solution.

"Dinner!" Eva called out and River and Owen stood up quickly.

"Dude, I'm so hungry," River said and Owen nodded in agreement before walking to the door. Jughead quickly jumped up from the couch and stepped in front of the two of them.

"Your parents can't know you are high. So try not to be too obvious," Jughead said and Owen and River looked at each other before giggling.

"I'm being serious guys. No spontaneous laughter. Just sit there, eat your food, quickly. Then come back downstairs. Don't talk. Do you guys understand," Jughead said and they both nodded before walking upstairs for dinner.

Owen and River ate is silence while they stuffed their faces. Owen reached over the table to grab more mashed potatoes, he piled them up on his plate before stuffing them into his face. River stuffed more Mac and cheese into her already full mouth while Jughead just looked at the both of them in disgust.

"Wow, you kids are really hungry today, huh?" Eva said looking at her kids while they stuffed their faces and they didn't even respond.

"Yeah, the lunch at school wasn't that great today," Jughead lied and Eva nodded.

"Jesus, Rivi, slow down otherwise you are going to choke," Nathan said while looking at his daughter who's was practically inhaling the Mac and cheese. River just nodded.

"Wen, can you pass the salt," Eva asked her son and Owen looked at his mom before looking at the salt shaker that was in front of him before laughing loudly. Eva and Nathan shot him a look of confusion while Jughead just face palmed.

"Okay then... River, baby, pass the salt," Eva said and River looked at her brother before giggling along with her brother.

Eva and Nathan looked at each other before looking back at their kids.

"Salt." Owen snickered and his sister started laughing loudly and Jughead wanted to stab forks into his eyes.

"Did you guys smoke pot?" Nathan asked them seriously and River and Owen looked at each other before laughing.

"No, we ate it." River giggled and Nathan's eyes widened.

"YOU WHAT?!" Nathan shouted and Jughead face palmed.
