Killian and Regina were like peanut butter and jelly, the last month of the summer, they were just loving being together. They had become the best of friends, since they were next door to each other, and their windows faced each other's, they had little flashlights that they signaled to each other at night.
If the flashlight to each other flashed 4 times really fast, that meant urgent and they would sneak out to each other. They had been begun saving for a treehouse, there was a huge tree that was sitting right in the center between their two houses, it was half on each of their lands', not like Brennan or Henry cared, but their father's told them if they saved up some money, they would build a treehouse for them. It was only a week until school.
"Here you go guys," Ava said carrying out a nice fresh lemonade pitcher, they were selling lemonade. "These two are quite determined," Henry said, "I know, I think they've made about 40 dollars, which isn't bad considering they are only charging about 35 cents each cup," Brennan said. "Maybe we should tell them at the BBQ we are building it?" Henry asked, "I agree, let's surprise them, I'm sure Killian will present that jar today to show me how much he has made," Brennan said.
That evening, some other neighbors, all came to Ava and Brennan's, Henry and Cora being of course their closest friends, Killian and Regina ran around, some of the other neighbors had children too, but Killian mainly was focusing on Regina of course. "Should we show them?" Regina asked, "Yeah," Killian said and he grabbed their money jar, and went out into the friendly crowd, Brennan and Henry were by the grill, holding drinks. They smiled down at the kids, and Killian held up the jar to Brennan. "Mmm look at this," Brennan said taking it, Henry smiled, and picked up his daughter, "Well, you will be happy to know, Henry and I have decided you two have worked pretty hard, and we are going to build it for you, with your help of course," Brennan said. "Really Papa!??" Killian asked, getting excited, "Yes, you hungry?" Brennan asked his son, he knew he was, he was always hungry. "Thank you Daddy," Regina hugged Henry, and he put her down, "go get some food, and not just your mother's treats, your Aunt is coming soon," Brennan said as the kids ran off.
Brennan's sister was a fair amount younger than him, about a decade, Dawn.
"Ah there you are," Brennan said greeting Dawn, "Hey, where's Mr. Handsome?" Dawn asked, "I'm right here," Brennan smirked, "I meant Killian," Dawn said rolling her eyes, and they headed over to greet everyone, "Dawn," Ava hugged her, "Cora, Henry, and Regina," Ava said, "Well Hi, I heard so much about you, I hope Killian is behaving," Dawn winked, "I'm a gentleman," Killian boasted, "mmm," Dawn said kissing his cheek cutely.
"We're getting a treehouse," Killian said happily to his Aunt, "Oh you told them," Ava said, "Mm, they earned it, look at that sweet lemonade they sold," Brennan said. The gathering was a great time, and everyone headed home as the evening approached. "Night Regina," Killian said and everyone retreated inside.
Brennan and Henry were quite handy and could likely put the treehouse up in a weekend, they started to work the following weekend. Regina had cute little jean coveralls on, as did Killian, "Smile you two," Cora said taking a picture of them, they were too adorable. "Good good job, lad, good boy," Brennan said helping Killian hammer. Henry had Regina painting some of the pieces they go up.
"Well now we know where to look if either of them ever want to run away," Ava said, "I know, they are so close," Cora said, "I know, it's sweet, I have a feeling their friendship may change down the road when they reach teens," Ava said. "Well he certainly has some charm," Cora said.
The kids were very sweet helping their fathers, at one point though, Regina got a cut, "Ow!!" She squealed, and the guys rushed over, Killian faster than anyone, he took her hand, as Henry sat behind her, Cora went to get a first aid kit. Henry had Regina on his lap, but Killian was the one taking over, he took out a little rag he had, Brennan and Henry both watched, he held Regina's hand gently, and wrapped it around it, tying it. Brennan smiled, "Good job lad," Brennan said, Killian's blue eyes sparkled up to Regina, she smiled at him, "Thank you," Regina said. "Well he's good at rescuing now isn't he?" Henry asked, "That's kinda my job," Henry said to Killian, "Sorry," Killian said, Henry pat his head. "Mind if I still take a look?" Cora asked, Killian nodded, and she took Regina inside.
"Quite the dashing rescue of a fair maiden lad," Brennan said, he was quite proud of his son. They got back to work, "Think we need to call it a day," Brennan said, "Why Papa?" Killian asked, "love, it's getting dark, we will work tomorrow," Brennan said, "ok," Killian sighed, "Are you ok Regina?" Killian asked as she came back with a proper bandaid on her hand, "Yeah," Regina said, "She's a tough lass Killian," Brennan smiled, "Ok, let's go," Henry said, "No more?" Regina asked, "Tomorrow sweetie, it's late," Henry said, "Fine," Regina rolled her eyes, "hey, sass," Henry said firmly and they headed inside. "You too, and don't even think of rolling your eyes," Brennan said walking in front of Killian, he did of course, "I saw that son," Brennan said as they got inside.
The day before school, the treehouse was finished, and the kids were so excited, they spent the whole day inside it, some of some other kids from the neighborhood came by, and were inside when Regina was getting something to drink. Regina came back, and started to go up, "Hey, no girls allowed!" One boy said, "What?" Regina asked, "No girls allowed," he said again, there were two other boys up there, plus Killian.
"Killian why is this girl climbing up?" He asked, Killian looked down, Regina couldn't help but feel sad, but she was stopped instantly, "Umm that's Regina, and she's coming up, Come on!" Killian said, "What? a girl?" his friend asked, "If you don't like her, you can leave, she helped build it," Killian said giving the other boy quite the glare, as Regina climbed up and stood next to him, "Regina is my best friend," Killian said, "You mean girlfriend," the boy sassed, "Yeah! my girlfriend then!" Killian snapped.
