It was only a month left of summer, so they had time to adjust. They hadn't moved far, but far enough where Regina would have to go to a new school. Cora was a school teacher, actually at her new school, and Killian of course went there, so they hoped that Killian would help Regina adjust, she had trouble with new people. Cora was obviously off work the remainder of the summer and offered to watch Killian for Ava, to save them some childcare costs. "Oh that would be lovely, and I think my son likes your daughter," Ava said quietly to Cora as they watched the kids go for apples, each taking one together.
Regina laughed, as they each ate an apple, "What?" Killian asked, "My aunt doesn't like red apples, she says they're too sweet, she only likes the green ones," Regina said. "But, my mommy likes red ones, she likes to make turnovers with them," Regina said, "My mum makes pie with them," Killian said,"Yes, I will do that when the fall comes," Ava interrupted. "Come on Killian, we are going to let them settle in, and you'll see Regina tomorrow," Ava said. "Bye Regina," Killian said with a cute little smirk, and went to his mother.
"Well thank you, I couldn't have gotten a better start, and your young man is very helpful," Henry said smiling down at Killian, "He's a good boy," Brennan said shaking Henry's hand, the adults said goodbye and the Jones' headed home.
"Well your son got along quite well with her," Ava said, "Mmm I noticed, I saw his little charm kicking in," Brennan said, "He's quite the gentleman, unlike his scoundrel father," Ava said, "Oh that's a bit harsh, I still won you over didn't I?" He asked with a sly smirk, "Mmmm I suppose," Ava said melting into Brennan's arms, as his hands moved up her arms, and shoulders, and they kissed.
"Mummy, Regina has toy swords, and a bow and arrow," Killian said as they sat down for dinner, "Oh great, more trouble for you," Brennan said, Ava smiled, "How come she can have it and I can't??" Killian asked, "You have toy swords, and a toy light sabers little Jedi," Ava said. "But can't I have a bow?" Killian asked, "I'll consider it, I already took away the bloody slingshot," Brennan said. "So you like Regina?" Ava asked, "She's good," Killian shrugged. Ava smiled across at Brennan. "Just treat her nicely, the lady deserves respect," Brennan said.
Next day, Brennan and Ava and Henry were getting ready to leave for work. Brennan knelt down, "Here, just in case he needs anything," Ava handed a spare key to Cora, "Though the lad knows how to break in if he needs to," Brennan smirked looking down at his son, "Regina actually is good at picking locks too, I'm not sure why," Cora said. "Ok you, you be a good boy, and I mean it, I don't want any bad reports, play nicely with Regina, listen to Cora, understood?" Brennan asked in his typical father tone. "Yes Papa," Killian nodded, Ava kissed his head, and the three headed off to work, leaving Regina and Killian with Cora.
Killian and Regina were outside in the back yard, playing with toy swords, "Ha!!" Killian said happily, moving the sword around, Killian spun around, and caught the plastic of Regina's sword, she wasn't too bad. They both looked like they were from some old movie spinning about with swords in their hands. "Ah you got me!" Regina said and went down on her back, Killian leaned over her, "See? When I jab you with my sword you'll feel it!!" He said playfully leaning over her, she smiled at him, giggled and then pushed him playfully pushing her play sword at him, "Ah!" He pretended to fall over and play dead, "Killian," Regina leaned over him, "Killian, come back to me!" Regina said sweetly, "You stabbed me," Killian said smiling with his eyes closed.
"What happened here?" Cora came out, playing along, "I got him," Regina shrugged, "You didn't win," Killian sat up, "Yes I did, I bested you, right mommy?" Regina asked, "Mmm I think you two are even, how about some lunch?" Cora suggested and the kids got up together and went inside. "Did I hurt you?" Regina asked Killian, "No, I'm a survivor," Killian smiled cutely.
"Mrs. Mills," Killian said, "Yes? You can call Cora," she said, "Can I go to my house and get something?" Killian asked, "Sure, we can do that," she said and they headed next door, and went inside. "Come on Regina," Killian cutely took Regina's hand, and they went upstairs, "This isn't your room," She said noticing they had gone to his parents' room. "Shh," Killian said and he went under the bed, he came out, and had his slingshot, that his father forbid of course.
They headed back downstairs and went back with Cora next door. Killian and his slingshot tucked in his pocket. They went outside again next door, Ava called to check on Killian, "Oh they're fine, they're outside, it's a beautiful day, they just have been out there the whole time," Cora said.
"Oh no! Killian!" Regina yelled, he had hit a little bird, with his slingshot, Cora heard and came out, "What happened?" she asked as Regina leaned over the little blue bird. "I'm sorry! I didn't mean to!" Killian said, "Oh I think he's ok," Cora gently picked up the bird, he shook a bit, and she pet him gently. Killian and Regina watched with curious eyes as the bird wasn't afraid of Cora, and it's wings moved, "There, he's ok," Cora said and the bird flew away. "I'm guessing you were not allowed to have that?" Cora asked Killian, "Yes," he sighed.
Killian hid behind Regina, as his father showed up, "Come here," Brennan said as Cora handed him the slingshot, "I didn't mean to hurt the bird, he flew away," Killian said, "I know that, luckily he was fine, suppose you hit Regina with it? and hurt her?" Brennan asked, Killian looked down, and Brennan took him home.
Killian of course was in big trouble with his father, for going and getting the slingshot in his room, "Come," Brennan said firmly as he sat down, Brennan put his son over his knee, and gave him quite the warming on his behind for being disobedient and sneaky, "ow," Killian winced as his father stood him back up after quite a few spanks on his behind.
Ava came home, and Brennan told her the story, Ava wasn't pleased either and took Killian next door, Cora and Henry answered with Regina by their side, Killian was clearly still upset at his father's firm hand, Regina sensed it, "Killian had something to say," Ava said, "I'm sorry I got that slingshot and hurt the bird," he said. Cora smiled, "It's ok, we all make mistakes, and that bird was ok," Cora said. "It won't happen again," Ava said looking down at her son who nodded, "He's just a growing boy," Henry said patting his head, "No harm done, right Regina?" Henry asked kneeling down next to both kids, "Yeah, it's ok Killian," Regina smiled. "The bird was a survivor," Regina said.
