Chapter 8

I lay in bed that night and all I could think about were Taylor’s hands on me and how good it felt. I knew he was an ass, but maybe fooling around with him wouldn’t be so bad…

I mentally slapped myself. What the fuck was I thinking?

Then I started thinking about Cameron, who didn’t even have to look at me to get my heart racing. His soft lips…

I started squirming around in bed. This was hopeless, I was never going to fall asleep like this. I looked over at my clock: 1am. Mom was probably asleep…

I jumped out of bed and threw a sweatshirt and some flip flops on. I quietly walked down the stairs and snuck out the back door, making sure to leave in unlocked so I could get back in.

I really didn’t know where to go, so I just started wondering around and thinking.

Thinking about Taylor. Thinking about Cameron. Thinking about mom and this shit town.

I eventually wound up at a playground and sat down on one of the swings.

I was contemplating the meaning of life when I heard a “Hey,” from behind me.

I jumped up and started screaming. I turned around to see Cameron there laughing his ass off. “Cameron! You scared the hell out of me!” I yelled.

He smiled, “Sorry, I didn’t mean to.”

“Well, hell, ruffle some leaves or something next time. You could have been some sort of axe murderer or something.” I took a deep breath and tried to slow my heart rate.

“Speaking of axe murders,” Cameron said as he sat in the swing next to mine. “Why are you out here so late anyways?”

I sat back down and shrugged, “Couldn’t sleep. Why are you out here?”

“Just got home.”

“Why were you out so late? Isn’t it a school night?” I questioned.

He chuckled, “Damn, you ask a lot of questions. But, I had to work.”

“Where do you work?”

“Again with the questions!”

I giggled and shrugged, “Sorry, I’m just curious.”

He rolled his eyes, “I work at the video store.”

“Why do you work so late? Don’t they know you have school?” I put my hands up defensively, “I know, I know, lots of questions.”

He looked up at me with his wonderful eyes, “They know, but I’ve got to get in as many hours as possible. Got to help my mom pay the bills.”

I nodded, understanding how that went.

We sat in a comfortable silence for a few minutes, but eventually I became restless, wanting to do something. “Got any wild ideas you want to try out?”

He eyed me, “Are you serious? You don’t seem like the type that’s into wild things!”

“Please you just met me, you don’t know what I’m into,” I teased lightly shoving him.

“Whatever! Well… we could go break into the video store and watch some scary movies? Lame, I know, but it’s the best I’ve got right now.”

I choked a little, “Break in?”

He just laughed and fished into his pocket pulling out a set of keys, “We don’t have to break in exactly.”

I grabbed them out of his hand and jumped up, “Let’s go!”

“Give those back!” He said and tried to grab them from me.

“You’ll have to catch me first,” I teased and stared running around when he lunged for me. It wasn’t long before he had me pinned to the ground and got the keys back. I couldn’t help but stare at his perfect lips. They just looked so kissable.

But, Cameron hopped off all too quickly and helped me up. “Come on, let’s go,” he said as he grabbed my hand and started walking towards the video store.

It wasn’t a long walk and he held my hand the whole way, only letting go to open the door for me.

We wondered around for a while and picked out a bunch of movies. We went into the back where they had a couch and a TV, and Cameron put one in.

It was a horror movie, but that was fine with me. They didn’t bother me. Halfway through the movie Cameron did the whole yawn-put-his-arm-around-my-shoulder thing.

I started bursting out laughing, “Oh my god Cameron, that was pretty lame…”

He started laughing too and rolled his eyes, “I know! But you didn’t get all scared during the movie and snuggle up to me, so I had to go with plan B. Not my fault plan B sucked ass.”

I rolled my eyes and snuggled up next to him, fitting perfectly. He smelled so good. I could have stayed there forever. “Happy now?” I asked.

“Yeah, I am.”
