We got our ice cream cones and we started walking around town. The sun was starting to set and it was feeling strangely like a movie.

“Thanks for cheering me up,” I said and smiled at him.

He smiled back at me, “No problem.” He stopped walking and stood there awkwardly, shuffling his feet. “Carson… um, about earlier in school, when you, you know, kind of took off…”

Fuck. I was hoping he had forgotten about that. “Yeah… about that look, I’m really sorry-“

He cut me off, “If I was moving too fast or making you uncomfortable-“

“No!”

“-then I’m sorry.”

I sighed. “Cameron, you have absolutely nothing to be sorry about.”

He kept starring at the ground, “Obviously I do, I was trying to take this relationship in a direction you didn’t want it to go in.”

Oh fuck it. I dropped my ice cream and roughly grabbed Cameron’s shirt and pulled him close to me, smashing our lips together. At first he didn’t react, probably horribly confused, but then he quickly wrapped his hands around my waist and dominated the kiss.

Cameron was an amazing kisser.

He was just as good as Taylor, but somehow it was still different. Not better, but different. I felt so safe in his arms, like no matter what happened with my mom I would be ok. That wasn’t a feeling I got too often.

Eventually we broke apart, breathing heavily. Cameron’s eyes darkened, “What about Taylor?”

I shrugged, “What about him? We’re not together, what you saw was a mistake anyways.”

It wasn’t like Taylor had feelings for me, and I really didn’t need to be used as his sex toy.

Cameron smiled and leaned in gently kissing me again, making my insides melt.

When we broke apart again I realized how dark it was out now, “Fuck, I better get home.”

Cameron nodded and intertwined our hands and started walking in the direction of my house. I knew what I was doing was stupid. I could already feel myself falling head over heels in love, and it probably wasn’t long before we were moving again… but I just… I really liked Cameron. So what the hell.

When we reached my front door I kissed him on the cheek, “Thank you so much for tonight, I really needed it.”

Cameron looked at me offended, “After all I did the hugging and the comforting, a kiss on the cheek is all I get?”

I nodded, “Yep” and started to open my door.

“I don’t think so…” he grabbed me around my waist, spun me around, and kissed me. He smiled against my lips, “That’s better.”

I slowly opened my eyes and looked into his, wow I could really get lost in them. I couldn’t help but smile and feel giddy inside.

We were having the perfect moment, until my mom ran outside looking like shit, “Carson?!” She had obviously been crying, her eyes were puffy and she was holding a tissue.

I quickly stepped out of Cameron’s grasp, “Yeah mom?” She pulled me into a tight hug, suffocating me. This was new. “Uhh mom?”

“Shhh,” she said. “Don’t ruin the moment.” She already fucking ruined my moment with Cameron, so I pushed her off of me.

“Mom, I’m a little busy here,” I indicated to Cameron.

She giggled, “Oh! I’m so sorry! Hi, I’m Carson’s mom,” she said, shaking his hand.

He smiled sweetly, “I’m Cameron; it’s nice to meet you” He was so sweet and so perfect. Mom just kept staring at him. I cleared my throat.

“Oh, right! Well I better get back inside I left the… blow dryer on!” then she turned and ran back into the house.

I looked at Cameron and rolled my eyes, “I am SO sorry about that.”

He laughed, “Don’t worry about it!” Then he kissed me on the cheek and turned to leave.

“That’s all I get?!” I yelled at him as he walked away.

“Yep!” he shouted back over his shoulder.

I laughed and walked back into the house. I walked right past my mom with her eager eyes and straight to my room.
