I stare at the ring. It's thin, thin enough for me to squeeze it and it will bend.
The stone is loose.
I never really checked it out I study it, the metal, the stone.
925
It's engraved in the inside.
Sterling silver.
Cheap bastard.
I'm angry.
I'm angry at my brother because I'm not enough for him. I'm angry at Ashton for cheating on me, and I'm angry at Spencer for giving me confusing feelings and mixed emotions about my life.
I put the ring down. I showered and got dressed in just sweatpants and a t-shirt.
I walk in my living room, anger burning in my stomach, when somebody knocks on the door.
I'm not letting anybody into my house.
I grab my laptop and press the power button.
Somebody knocks again.
Annoyed, I get up and storm to the front door, ripping it open.
Spencer. He threw a shirt on.
I just stare at him.
"Are you okay?" He asks.
"I'm fine." I say. I start to shut the door, but he catches it with his hand.
"No you aren't." He says.
Obviously.
"Look, I'm really not in a good mood and I'm mad at everyone, including you."
"What did I do?" He asks.
I glare at him.
"You came into my life." I snap. "I was fine until I met you! I was fine, but you swooped in and changed me!" I accuse, poking his chest. "You said speeches about cheating and bothered me until I opened up to you, and you made me sit with you for hours and talk! And you made me not want you leave! You made me vulnerable, so now I hate you!"
"You're mad at me because I'm friends with you?" He asks slowly.
"I'm mad at you because you're-you're putting thoughts in my head. You're controlling me, dammit!"
He walks straight into my apartment and shuts the door.
"You're mad at me because I said that thing about cheating." He says. "You're mad at me because I told you the truth."
"I'm mad at you because you're putting thoughts into my head and planting tiny little seeds! You're controlling me! You are just making thoughts and decisions about my life! You forced me to open up to you! You won't leave me the hell alone!"
He shakes his head. He's mad.
"Wow. I feel bad for you." He says angrily. "You have managed to isolate every single person in your life that could ever possibly care about you! At the mention of having a family, well that terrifies you. So you run! That's why you were in the airport, and that's why you're here. You're running! Poor orphaned Audrey can't have a real friendship with anybody! I pity you."
I storm into my bedroom and get his jacket off the back of my door, shoving it into his chest.
"Get the bloody hell out of my apartment stay the fuck out of my life!" I open the door, glaring at him.
"Gladly." He snaps. "I'm done trying to get through to you."
"Thank God!" I say, slamming the door in his face.
