I didn't realize that it was morning until I woke up. I looked around to find that I was still in the alley where I hid from that masked man that, pretty much jumped me last night.
I rubbed the sleep from my eyes and sat up, Joe Jr was asleep right beside me, I watched his bare, massive chest rise then fall, rise then fall.
I bet that when he wakes up he'll chew me out for leaving without telling him, but, he also should know that girls need their space, right?I quietly stood up to my feet and grabbed Joe Jrs' jacket that sat next to him on the ground, I put it on and walked out of the alley, leaving Joe Jr behind.
I then spotted a cafe' just across the street, good, I might as well get me some breakfast and a cup of coffee.
I looked both ways before running across the street, I stopped at the door of the cafe' and walked inside. The smell of freshly brewed coffee hit my nose, my stomach started to grumble when I walked up to the cashier.
"Well hello sweetie," the old woman looked to be in her late sixties and she had a sweet, gentle voice, "do you want anything dear?"
I gave her a compassionate smile as I told her what I wanted, "I want some scrambled eggs and a cup of coffee please."
"Is that all?" The old woman asked as I watched her pour some coffee into a mug, "would you like cream or sugar?"
"Uh, sugar would be fine." A moment later the old woman handed me my streaming cup of coffee, "your eggs will be out in a minute," she said as I took my seat at an empty table by the window.
I took off the jacket and sat it down on the table, I bet Joe Jr is out looking for it by now.As I waited for my eggs I spotted a familiar figure walked down the street, he stopped in his tracks when he saw me, I looked away.
The old woman walked up to me with a plate in her hands, "I put some toast next to your eggs, is that okay?" She sat down the plate in front of me.
"Yes ma'am, this looks great," I said to her kindly, "how much do I owe you?"
"Oh you don't have to owe me anything sweetie," she replied while I fished through my pockets for some change, "its free today."
I looked up at her, "everything is free?"The old woman nodded, "yes." And then, she was gone.
I was already halfway through my plate when someone took a seat in front of me, I didn't look up to see who it was because I already knew who it was.
Jack Kennedy stole a piece of toast away from my plate and took a bite out of it, "sense when did you start eating here?" He asked as he slid the plate over to him, "they make good food here."
"Yeah, I've noticed that," I said, "and how did you know where I was?"
Jack looked up with the fork close to his lips, "I believe you already know that," he sat the fork down next to the plate, "I have good sense of smell, remember?"
My face went completely blank, "oh, yeah."
Jack chuckled as he grabbed the fork and started eating again,
"So, you left Joe Jr out there all alone?"How does he already know that?
"Well, yes and no," I said, "I was going to go get him and bring him food but..."
Jack looked down at the now-empty plate before him, "oh, sorry."
"I could tell that you were hungry," I crossed my arms over my chest, "and you didn't leave anything for your brother? Shame of you."
Jack knew that I was just messing with him, he looked up at me as he wiped his mouth with a napkin, and then he eyed my cup of coffee, he tried to take it from me but, I stopped him.
"No, no," I waved a finger, "get your own cup."
"Do I have too?" He started pouting and gave me the look of pure sarcasm, I just rolled my eyes and said, "yes, if you want more food then get it while it's still free."
"Oh, it's free food day?"
"Yeah."
Jack rubbed his hands together as he stood up from his chair and walked over to the cashier, I was glancing out the window as the thought of my family hit me.
I miss Brielle so much that I wish she was here with me right now, and my parents, I wish they were here as well.I miss them so much.
"Tranessa?" I shook my head and glanced at Jack who was now sitting right next to me, "are you okay?"
"I'm fine, I just want a milkshake, if they have any here."
"Oh, well, the do have good milkshakes here," Jack shoved me playfully.
I was just about to ask him to go get me one until we saw Joe Jr walk into the cafe', he looked exhausted from what I could tell. "Well look who's here," Jack whispered as Joe Jr walked up to our table and sat down."You look tired," I said to him.
"Yeah, because I was looking for you everywhere last night," Joe Jr rubbed his forehead, "but now, all I want is food."
"Joseph," I grabbed hold of his hand, "I want to thank you for-"
"He could've killed you," he interrupted me, "do you know why he was chasing you?"
"No."
"Because he was after you, he thought he could force a pretty girl like you to rob a bank for him, it's just not the right thing to do out here."And that was the moment my heart stopped beating.
