Don't take this the wrong way but I'm not necessarily saying don't write the book of your heart. That would contradict what I said earlier wouldn't it? If you want your books on the bookshelves you must realize this is a business where the books one writes are the commodity.
As such you must provide commercial value with it which is directly related to trends. Take an example such as wattpad. Romance books, Vampire books and even Werewolf books tend to have more reads and are quite popular.
This doesn't mean you should quit your own adventure books. Instead, how about writing a romance book with a twist of adventure to it. That way its killing two birds with one stone.
If you're writing for the fun of it, then write what you love and enjoy writing, not paying much attention to what current trends demand otherwise, follow the trends from a distance.
