Ok now...don't jump to conclusions. Any ideas you come up with or you happen to chance upon should all go into one book that you would carry around and my dear friends, this is what I'll call a diary!
Now you shouldn't limit your thinking to seeing a diary as something secretive like you see in the movies or you have grown up to know.
If you feel better, you could call it something different such as......A Journal! Its not every time you would input entries into your journal but at the end of the day, write everything that would contribute to your novel or story into your journal and always keep a backup or spare.
After you publish your book and you hit the shelves, a helpful tip even suggests that you could even sell 'deluxe' versions of your book that comes with photocopied and edited versions of your original journal.
