Natalie gasped and he knew his mouth hung open. He felt Natalie's hand resting on his arm but couldn't bring himself to move. He was still processing everything. "So you are saying that my family is cursed? That because of this Malaci person, I am the way I am."
She nodded and smiled. "That's exactly what I am saying."
"You were exactly like me?"
She shook her head. "No son. I was exactly like her." She pointed towards Natalie. "I was human. I fell in love with your father though. He did not love me as a man, only as a beast. When the end of the year came up, I turned into what you are. I did live a happy life. I loved your father very much, just as we loved you."
"Why did I never fucking know you then?" He growled. He had seen the way Natalie and her mother were. And that wasn't what he got. No, he had been abandoned.
"Well baby.." She started. "Every generation before you, this story was told to their children. We wanted you to have a better chance. So we hid you, and let you live your life. So that when a woman came along, you wouldn't question if she was the one. You wouldn't feel pressured. What Isabel's words were is that it had to be true love. You would've never known if we had told you of the legend. You needed to fall in love on your own. You needed to know for a fact when you said it. And you did."
"If I broke the curse then why am I still this way?" He asked. He looked down at himself and then at his back. He could still feel his fangs, still had his wings. He could feel his beast.
"That's the thing Austin. There are stages. Tell me, are there things that you don't remember? Times that your beast took control?"
"There are parts., He stated.
"That's why. Remember Isabe'ls words. You are beast, and you are a man. But you seem to forget, you are still one."
His mother turned to Natalie and smiled. "What is your name sweetie?"
Natalie smiled back. "Natalie."
"Very pretty name for a beautiful woman. Now Natalie, does Austin look different when he is a complete beast then he does now?"
Natalie stole a glance at him and then back at his mother. "Well, yes."
"Okay, and did he act differently as well?"
"Yes."
"Explain both of these to Austin, will you darling."
"Okay," Natalie whispered and looked up at him. He almost smiled when he noticed the small blush making its way to her cheeks. He scooted closer to her and grabbed her hand. "When you were a beast, you were kind. You were always comforting. You rarely spoke, but you didn't have to. You would just hold me."
"Now, what are different about his looks?"
Natalie blushed again before looking at him once more. "Your eyes turned pitch black like hers. You grow taller and your muscles get bigger. Oh, and your voice gets deeper."
He stared at her before pulling her closer to his side. "What does that even mean?" He asked as he looked back to the woman.
"It means that your beast was the bigger and better side of you. The monster was always man. The beast was what the moster wasnt." She paused a moment and he nodded. "Austin, think really hard for me. If you think about the exact moments that your beast took over, you will know everything. He never kept anything from you, because you are one. You are him as much as he is you. You were born a monster, born to never care. The beast did that for you, he was that side of you. He could never make you do anything you didnt want to do yourself though. He is... You! You just weren't ready to accept it. Now you are, all you have to do is remember."
