They had been out for a stroll after breakfast. The city was like it always was, bustling to the brim. People rushed everywhere they went, and she enjoyed not being one of them. She never missed the looks of envy or jealousy when womans eyes went from Cole to her though. It was something she became used to and chose to ignore. It wasnt weird when Cole looked her in the eye and told her that he would meet up with her later. He had seen somebody he knew and needed to speak with them. She had simply studied his perfection. His brown hair was buzzed and his blazing green eyes stood out. His jaw was sharp and his cheekbones highly defined. She studied his white teeth and slightly crooked nose. She had just sighed dreamily and said she didnt mind as long as he came back to her. He always did. But when he turned around and she was no longer blinded by the beauty, she caught the glint in his eyes. It was one she had never seen before, pure predatory. So she had followed. A mistake she had learned would very well be the end of her life. He had been a ways in front of her until he turned into an alleyway. She heard him before she saw him again. He was yelling in a voice she had never heard. It had the same deep baritone, but was rough, aggressive, and threatening. She had pushed her back against the wall and took a deep breath, almost scared to look. Then she heard the pleading. The man was begging, saying he would pay. He had a family that needed him. She had peaked around the corner then, and froze. Cole, the man she loved, was standing over a stranger pointing the gun at his face. He was dirty and old. Wrinkles dotted his face and his hands shook as he held them up in surrender.

Weve warned you twice now. Havent you heard third times a charm? She trembled as Coles voice cut off the mans pleas. The nasty smile that slowly grew over his face made the blood drain from her face. She saw his intent before the strangers eyes grew wide. Bile rose in her throat and she had to swallow it down.

The pop that went off was suppressed. Barely audible. She had to throw her hand over her mouth to keep the scream from escaping. The man collapsed as she slammed herself back against the building and shut her eyes trying to block out the images she had just seen. Her body kicked into action as she heard the sound of footsteps coming towards her. She ran like the wind.

She could kick herself for being so stupid. Running home and then passing out was going to be her downfall. Her death played in her mind as Cole screamed for her through the door. She saw the same situation happening to her. She was in the place of the ageing man and once again, Cole didnt hesitate to pull the trigger. Natalie, babe, open the door! His voice had went back to normal but she still heard the threat, something she would of normally missed. She racked her brain for an idea as she searched for an escape. She could call the cops. But he would hear her, shed be dead before they even arrived. That should have been the first thing she did when she got home. Stupid, stupid, stupid. The only other option was to play actress. She had never done that before and was going to have to put on her best act, basically, she was screwed. She checked over her appearance in the mirror and tried to straighten her hair and erase the fearful look in her eyes.

Natalie? He yelled again.

Hold on, babe! Im coming! She screamed back trying to keep her voice from trembling.

She rushed to the door and paused as her hand landed on the knob. Do or die. She took a deep breath and tried to calm her breathing and nerves. She smiled as she opened the door. He had changed clothes. He was wearing a suit instead of his jeans and white T-shirt.

Why are you so dressed up? She asked as she looked over his muscular form. After witnessing his brutalness, she was able to see past the physical beauty to the inner hate; the monster.

She had always known that monsters hid behind a mask. That a beast could go unnoticed by a façade but she never expected it to happen to her. Never dreamed of coming face to face with a breathing demon. Yet, here she was, smiling at one. She felt her stomach churn and held back the need to run to the bathroom.

I wanted to surprise you! Plus, I did tell you Id see you later. What took you so long to answer the door? She noticed the way his eyes narrowed as he checked every part of her face.

Sorry, I just woke up. Fell asleep as soon as I got home.

He studied her for a moment longer until his face morphed back into the one she fell in love with. She was going to be sick. She was in love with a monster. Self-hatred crawled and clung around her body and she suppressed the urge to shiver.

Well, you coming? I have a surprise for you! A shiver ran up her spine at those words. She quickly retrieved her purse and then followed him out the door to his car.

Playing actress was getting harder and harder as the miles passed. Silenced had descended on them like a black cloud and you could feel the tension in the air. She had zoned out when she felt his hand squeeze her thigh. She tensed and cursed herself for that mistake.

We are almost there. He spoke in a clipped tone and then quickly moved his hand. She studied the area around her and knew she was completely and utterly screwed. They were in the middle of nowhere. Abandoned warehouses were the only thing she could spot in the dark, she hadnt even noticed it had started to rain.

Where did you say we were going? She cleared her throat as the car started to come to a stop.

I didnt. She gulped as he stopped in the middle of the road. Her hands clutched together as she realized the situation she let herself get dragged into. Stupid.

I saw you, you know?

She tried to keep her face calm and confused as she looked him head on. Huh?

Dont play dumb with me Natalie. It will just piss me off and make me enjoy this a lot more than I should.

She stared into his eyes and saw the pleasure of what was to come. He was worse than any monster she could picture.

Cole, I really dont know what you are talking about. She tried once more. She saw his intent before he moved and was out the door before his hands touched her. There was no way she was going to let him kill her without putting up a fight first. A gunshot rang through the air making her scream. She couldnt stop. She couldnt look back. The rain made it hard for her to see and she couldnt stop herself from falling. No! The word escaped without her knowledge but she pushed herself back up determined not to fail. She had so much to live for. This couldnt be it. She risked a glance behind her and didnt have time to scream as his hand came out and slapped her. His laugh echoed maliciously in the dark. He was taunting her and enjoying the chase. She had already lost.

Not thinking of the outcome she pushed herself to run again but her feet failed her once more.

Please! I didnt see anything! She begged, hating herself for it. Her knees and hands were scraped but she didnt care. She couldnt care when she was staring death straight in the eyes. The punch came fast and hard and seemed to knock all sense from her body. She felt her body drain and couldnt process the words he said or even if she replied. She saw the flash of the gun before a loud ripping sounded within the night. She sat frozen as a creature landed in front of her. She didnt see the gun drop from Coles hands, didnt process the angelic form crush it. She could only stare. The body of a dark angel stood in front of her, shielding her body from harm. The wings as dark as night stretched as far as she could see. She didnt see Cole turn and run and dint hear the hiss that escaped the creatures lips. Magnificent! The word escaped on a sigh. She was dreaming, had to be. Nothing so beautiful could actually exist. The muscles that moved along its back were mesmerizing. Perfection. It froze as the words left her mouth and she was shocked when the creature turned around. Leaning up on her hands, she was barely able to stand up. His face, her angel, was so beautiful. Unearthly was the only word that came to mind. His black hair looked as soft as silk and his eyes that were mismatched seemed to glow black into the night. His face was perfectly symmetrical and she stared at his mouth watching his fangs move as he spoke a word, she couldnt process, to her.

So beautiful! She knew the dream was over when black dots started obscuring her vision from the most perfect specimen. She felt the wind across her cheek and the water on her face as her senses rushed back to her before the world went completely dark; as dark as the angels eyes.
