The next morning, I wake up before Shaw. I take a while to get up, enjoying the view of his tattoo-covered chest and abs. I vividly remember kissing a dark rose on his chest last night. I kissed a lot of his tattoos. The designs on his body are so intricate, full sleeves of animals and flowers, skulls and roses on his pecs. It must have taken him so long to collect all of it.
I can only stare for so long and eventually, decide to get out of bed before he wakes up and sees me watching him like a crazy person. Wearing a pair of my panties and his dress shirt from yesterday, I go into my bathroom and brush my hair and teeth before I go out into the kitchen to start making breakfast. I think I'll make omelets this morning.
I grab the eggs and everything else that I'll need from the fridge and start preparing everything to make some really rad omelets for Shaw and I. As I'm cutting up the bell peppers, my blissful morning mood is quickly damaged when I hear Jesse's bedroom door open.
"Good morning," He greets me. "What're you making?"
"Nothing for you," I finally respond to him.
"You got out two plates," He states the obvious, motioning to the two plates that I have on the counter beside me.
"And neither of them are for you. Shaw is here."
"Wren, how well do you know this guy?" Jesse asks me, leaning against the counter.
"Not very well," I admit, not looking away from the cutting board that I'm using to dice up the peppers. "I've never felt appreciated like this before though, so I'm enjoying myself."
"He seems like he's really bad for you. For fuck's sake, he got you arrested."
"You didn't seem too concerned with me dating men who are bad for me when it benefited you," I remind him. "Or did you think me dating a pathological liar and serial cheater good for me?"
He doesn't answer.
"Shaw is nice. He gets my mind off of things." As if being summoned by me saying his name, Shaw emerges from my room just wearing his jeans. "And he's better than the last guy I was with. At least you're not sleeping with this one."
Shaw comes over to me and with his arms around my waist, he kisses my cheek. "She's got you there, man," Shaw says to my brother before releasing me and he offers his hand out to Jesse. "We haven't really met. I'm Shaw."
They shake hands. "Jesse," He says awkwardly.
"Oh shit," Shaw mutters as he realizes something and then he looks apologetic with his nose scrunched up in a disgusted way. "I probably should have washed my hands before doing that. Man, that's my bad. Well, you've been sleeping with her boyfriend for a while now so I guess you're used to secondhandedly having your hand up your sister's snatch. Still, maybe don't touch anything with that hand until you wash it." He then turns to me and asks, "What are you making?"
I keep working on breakfast so that I can't see Jesse's reaction to what Shaw just said and so that he can't see that I'm trying my best not to laugh right now. "Omelets."
"Sounds amazing."
"What do you want in yours?"
"Do you have mushrooms? I just like mushrooms and cheese," He says. "Want any help?"
"I've got it," I assure him.
"I figured you do, I'd feel bad if I didn't ask though," He explains. "Anyway, what were you guys talking about? Didn't mean to interrupt."
"Just talking about how bad you are for me," I say to him, still chopping veggies and shuffling through the kitchen to pull out more ingredients.
"Oh, fun."
