We thought he was getting better. They kept on telling me not to worry. It's always Mrs. Kim who talks to the doctor and I pretend not to notice her secret tears. I convinced myself that he'd be okay, because that's what they said.
He starts vomiting blood last December. His fever went up to 45°. They forced me to go home because I was a crying mess. After two days, his temperature went back to normal but he has to undergo tests.
I think I smell like the hospital. I spent my whole vacation them. After the tests, they made him choose whether to go abroad or continue his medication here. Yugyeom insisted to stay. He said it's tiring to travel and he'll die of being homesick. I wanted to disagree but I know how restless I'll be once he's gone.
"Gummy," he weakly taps my arm.
I rub the sleep off my eyes. "What is it? Are you hungry?"
He shakes his head and forces himself to get up. I quickly aid him.
His parents and his sister just went out. Earlier, our classmates came to visit. After them, Yerin and his high school friends also stopped by. That's why I'm a bit exhausted and sleepy. And of course, Yugyeom is more.
"I want to go to the rooftop. The nurse said it has a great view.
I look at the clock. It's 5:30 in the afternoon. It isn't that hot and the breeze isn't dangerously cold so I guess it's okay.
I make him wear a jacket and am about to get the wheelchair so he doesn't have to walk up. But he stops me and says he can do it. That he wants to hold my hand as we walk.
Since his room is on the third floor, we take the elevator up to the eighteenth floor. From there, we go to the staircase that leads to the rooftop. It isn't lock because there's a 6 ft. fence that will stop anyone who's attempting to jump.
I squint my eyes when we get out. I adjust to the light and find a breathtaking sight. The sky is beautiful. Pink, orange, yellow, white, blue. I guide him to sit on a bench, the city below on our view.
"Beautiful," I hear him say, almost a whisper. I look at him to find his eyes on me.
"Are you talking about the view or me?" I tease.
"Of course, the view."
I roll my eyes.
"Because I love view," he adds.
I try to hide my smile. How cheesy. It was his fourth chemo two days ago. He doesn't have any hair left and he is full of bruises. But he's still my Yugyeom.
"Yu haven't said you love me yet," he says, now looking at the sky.
"I did. When you asked me how much I love you," I defend.
"You just compared your love t the colour black. You never said it directly."
"Same goes to you. You only said 'I love view'."
"I love you," he says full of sincerity. I can't do anything but stare back. My heart starts to hammer. "Wait, I'm wrong. I don't love you. I am in love with you."
It's like everything is picture perfect. It's too good to be true. I want time to stop right here, right now.
"Are you leaving me on seen?"
"I wasn't ready!" I manage to answer.
"We're getting married in three months but we've never said that to each other."
"Well, I'm sorry. It's not like we're on a normal relationship."
"Yeah, I fell in love on an abnormal girl."
