[Author's Note: Do pardon the late updates. I'm at a critical point in the plot and any rushed updates, no matter how much I want to put it out to the readers can make or break this little story of mine. Plus, I'm having quite a busy week. I do want to share something else with you, but I thought it best to express it in another way, you'll get to read it soon.  Nakaka-pressure ng very-very light yung mga readers lalo na yung mga #JakeSean Shippers diyan. So, this chapter is dedicated to you guys. Will come back to edit it later for any errors or if anything feels disjointed.]

If you're wondering if my plan ever did work? Well, thankful na lang ako at timing rin naman that Lola Idang made the call just before they nearly finalized the dessert order. Lola Idang did a pretty good job convincing Lola Doray to come to Makati. High Tea at Shang Makati is way better than staying in that restaurant any longer. After having paid our bill, I never bothered to look at the table where Joaquin, his family, and the-bitch-who-must-not-be-named is seated. I just busied myself with my Lola Doray like helping her get up from her chair etcetera.

The drive from Eastwood to Shangri-la Makati was as expected. I don't think the traffic situation in the metro ever lets up even on a Sunday. Good thing gusto rin ng mga Rañola to see my Lola Doray that they decided to join us for High Tea. Personally hindi ko kilala ang mga Rañola but I know they're a family from Quezon Province. I just don't know who exactly sa mga Rañola my Lola Idang just had lunch with pero you will have to forgive me for mentioning this.

I was at this charity dinner with Aunt Agatha once and alam niyo naman how people of privilege talk: they can be very harsh especially when it comes to poseurs and social climbers. So during this event which was to raise funds for the acquisition of an ancestral house para gawing museum ng isang municipality somewhere in the south, may discussion sila about a certain bagong graduate and newly licensed architect na feeling heritage architecture expert and academic restorer na. That's one of my Aunt Agatha's advocacies kasi, they help in the protection and preservation of heritage sites and structures of any historical importance; ergo she gets to to talk to these practitioners to see what they need help with.

So, back to my kuwento.

This feelingero wannabe is from Lucban and ang claim to fame —or social climbing strategy niya is that he is descended from the Rañola line. Pero one of the guests commented, "May Rañola bang naka-tira sa apartment sa Sampaloc district?" followed by haughty laughter.

There's a dark side to the exclusivity of the privileged few. And if you know how some others can be, hindi lang siya basta kung sino ang abuelo or abuela mo or who your famous ancestor is. Like I mentioned before, they ask for your family name, who your parents or your grandparents are, later on they will categorize you into "old money" or "new money". It's pretty harsh for those who want to belong to that circle —and believe me, marami sila that want to be part of the upper crust.

Even sa school nga, we have this term called the "Nouveau Riche Bitch" which is a generic term for those girls who get to be mean or make inarte. just because their newly acquired wealth pretty much makes them feel entitled to being on top of the social pecking order.

*Wait lang, am I describing the-bitch-who-must-not-be-named? I never did bother to know kung siya ay new money or old money. Pero since feeling entitled na siya masyado, maybe she is a Nouveau Rich Bitch? Hay naku, Sean. Sunday na Sunday, you're being mean na.*

But yeah, money makes or breaks you. There's a lot to be said about people my age na don't even think twice that the good life they're enjoying isn't license to be mata-pobre, feeling the world owes you what you think it owes you, or thinking you're a cut above the rest.
