Joaquin's Point-of-View

4:42pm At Starbucks.

Barista: Good afternoon, Sir. What may I help you with?

Me: Good afternoon. Uh, I'll have a grande Mint Tea to go. Do you guys have honey?

Barista: Yes, we do.

Me: Can you give me three packs of that?

Barista: Yes, Sir.

Me: Also, yung chicken and pesto sandwich, Miss. And that clubhouse pero don't heat na the clubhouse ha, he doesn't like warm sandwiches kasi.

I remember how upset he got one time na they heated yung kani sandwich niya sa 7-11. The hot chicken and pesto sandwich he'd forgive, pero yung soggy clubhouse heated in the microwave, he won't forgive me for it. I don't know what he really wants, so I'll just order two sandwiches.

Barista: So thats one grande Mint Tea with three packs of honey, the chicken and pesto panini, and the clubhouse sandwich —don't heat the clubhouse. Anything else, Sir?

Me: Yeah, Café Americano, tall.

I can feel sleep calling me but I need to be awake for this one tonight.

Barista: And one tall Café Americano. Your name please?

Me: Just write Artie. A-R-T-I-E.

Yeah, I gotta use Artie to get this to Sean. I kind of thought this through since you pretty much know the situation. I'm glad Artie's been really helpful all this time. Well, he's been in on the secret since Tali Beach so who else would I trust?

Barista: Total of 527 pesos and 53 cents, Sir.

Me: Here. Sorry, I don't have any smaller bills ha.

I hand her my payment.

Barista: I received one thousand.

She rings up the register, prints the receipt, and hands me my change.

Barista: Here's your receipt and your change, Sir. Let us just process your order and we'll call you when it's done.
_ _ _

Barista 2: One grande mint tea and tall café Americano to go for Artie!

I approach the edge of the bar where the orders are being served. I show him my receipt.

Me: Hi! Can you place these on a cup tray and is there a paper bag big enough na kasya pati yung sandwiches?

Para it would be easier to carry and I'll be using an old trick that's been effective where Sean is concerned.

Barista 2: Sure, sir.

Me: And, may I borrow yung pen marker?

In record time, the second barista makes ready a brown paper bag and places the cup tray inside it before securing the two paper cups within. He places the two sandwiches inside with the table napkins.

Me: Uhm, may honey na ba in that bag?

Barista:  Ah, wait sir. How much do you need?

Me: Three, to be sure.

Barista: Sige po. Sorry about that. It's listed here pala.

Me: That's okay.

He picks three packs of honey from those stackable plastic cubby hole-like containers behind him and puts them inside the bag. He hands the paper bag to me.

Barista: And here's the marker you wanted to borrow.

I take the bag and the pen and take a spot along the ledge of the counter.
