"You know you fucked up right?" Chris smirked at me from across the table.
I blew a long breath out and pushed my hair away from my face. "That's your favorite thing to say whenever I do something."
"Because you're always fuckin' up."
I sat back in the booth and didn't say anything. Chris was right but I wasn't going to tell him that. I didn't really mean to tell Quan to not be with me. It was just that to me he had said he didn't want to be in a relationship and I panicked.
"I'm not trying to make you feel bad Si." Chris said. "It's been like three weeks and I'm tired of seeing y'all look depressed."
"I'm not sad and I'm not depressed." I mumbled between the sips of soda I was drinking.
"Well listen, I'm not going to be the mediator for y'all. I have my own relationship to worry about with your crazy cousin."
"I never asked you to be."
"You're my best friend and little sister, I can't let you be like this."
The waitress came out with our cheeseburger lover's pizza. I grabbed the parmesan cheese while Chris grabbed the hot pepper seeds and we decorated the pizza.
"I've tried reaching out. He talks to Juju though on the iPad; they're always on facetime." I sighed. "It's like he really can't stand me."
"You and Quan are made for each other. Y'all say the same shit and cry and moan about who's doing what to who."
"Whatever." I shrugged. I was scrolling through my phone on Facebook not really feeling the pizza. It was messing with my taste buds. I couldn't even stomach the wings we had ordered either.
"Yo, you good?"
"I'm fine Chris. Just eat so we can go."
"Since when you don't want to eat our favorite pizza?" He eyed me.
"Since now." I continued scrolling, feeling his eyes on me. "You know, it's rude to stare at people."
"You're not a people."
I took a piece of ground beef from my slice and threw it at him. He moved and caught it in his mouth.
--
Chris ate his half of the pizza and I took my half to go. On the ride back to my place, he stopped by the Rite-Aid Pharmacy.
"Sit tight, I have to pick up some medicine for Shy."
I nodded and he got out. My phone rang and it was Tyree. I had every thought to ignore him but Tyree wasn't someone you could ignore.
"Miss Siani! Girl what is going on?" He didn't even give me a chance to say hello.
"Tyree."
"Yeah, so listen, I know the shop is under construction and all but I just booked you for a tattoo party." He popped the piece of gum that I could tell he was chewing. "Now before you say no, they are willing to pay whatever the price."
"Where did you find- nevermind. Give them my email address and I'll see what they're on about."
"Okay and just know that you can't get rid of me when you open back up because Tyree brings you those coins."
And with those words, he had hung up. He was a whole trip.
I looked at the clock on the dashboard to see that Chris had been gone for almost twenty minutes. All he was getting was stuff for a cold. Just when I was about to call him, he walked out of Rite-Aid.
