FLASHBACK
We were on our way back home from a long day out of town. We were a family back then."Mama, can you read me Cat In The Hat tonight?" My little sister, Amy, begged.
"Sweetheart, I read you that every night. Don't you wanna hear 1 Fish 2 Fish?"
"But mama-"
"Mom, just read it to her. She won't stop till you do." My older sister, Regan, spoke without her eyes leaving the magazine she was reading. She'd be leaving for college in a few months.
"I guess I will, Amy." Mom spoke defeated.
Amy cheered. Then it was quiet, until my allergies decided to show.
I sneezed, then picked out a tissue from my pocket.
"Bless you sweetheart." My dad spoke.
I muttered a nasally, "Thank you."
It was finally quiet enough to where I could look out the window and gaze at the stars. The moon glowed over the neighborhood, giving the houses a subtle ambiance. There was only a few stars tonight but that didn't matter-
"Oh my god." The car came to a harsh stop, sending me and my sisters nudged forward.
"What is it?" Regan spoke shakily. Her magazine folded in her lap.
"Our house has been broken into." Mom spoke in a low whisper.
Dad parked the car on the side of the street instead of the driveway. Then he got out and walked into the house.
"Girls, stay here." Mom spoke before exiting the car and walking into the house.
"Y/n, what's going on?" Amy spoke, tugging on her car seat buckle.
"We have a visitor, and mommy and daddy just uh, wanna see what they need." I lied.
I looked up at Regan, she rolled her eyes and stared intently at the house.
"Fuck it." I heard Regan mutter. I looked up at her with fear. We were never allowed to curse.
"I'm going in. Anything you guys want?" Regan spoke with her hand on the car door handle.
"Cat In The Hat." Amy shouted.
"I have a little bag of art stuff and sea animals. It's under my bed." I spoke shortly.
Regan left the car and entered through the back door.
'God I hope she stays safe.' I thought to myself.
I unbuckled my seatbelt and turned towards Amy.
"Hey Amy." I spoke sweetly to her.
"Hey y/n, I'm sleepy." She spoke rubbing her eye with her tiny hands. So sweet.
"I can keep a look-out while you take a nap." It wouldn't be much of a nap this late at night but oh well.
She smiled sweetly, then closed her eyes. Her head slowly flopped on the seat belt.
I peaked out and Regan jogged back to the car, with our things.
"I got Regan a stuffed bunny, I thought she would appreciate it." She spoke laying the rabbit on her lap.
She then handed me my bag. I peaked over at what she got, and it was a book bag filled with magazines. Priorities.
My mom came jogging out next. She buckled her seat belt and started the car.
"Where are we going?" Regan asked.
"To the hotel. Police are on their way now. Greg is staying behind and waiting for them."
