I laid in bed and I felt like shit. But today was Stan's bar mitzvah and I forced myself to get ready and go.

I put on a little more makeup than usual so no one would expect me to be dying, and I put on a dark blue dress and black flats. I braided a front piece of my hair and pinned it in the back.

I grabbed Stan's present off the counter and walked outside to where Richie and his mom where waiting outside in the car.

I got in smiled at Mrs Toizer.

"Hey Mrs Toizer." I spoke sweetly.

"Hey y/n," I like Richie's mom. She's always been really sweet to me.

Richie was wearing a light blue suite. I have never seen him ever dress this nice.

She parked the car and we walked into the temple. Stan was standing next to his present table, next to his dad who was talking him up to some relative.

He looked around and saw us. We both smiled at him.

"Hey Guys, glad you could make it." His normally curly hair was slicked back extremely.

"Aw Stan you're hair." I smiled as him.

"Wasn't my idea, trust me." Stan said.

"You're forehead is so big." Richie stared in awe.

"Richie!" Stan whined.

"You look great sweetie." I kissed his cheek.

"Barf, you guys make me sick." Richie complained.

He rolled his eyes, "just go put the gifts on the table and sit down." Stan spoke and walked back to his dad.

I set my gift down and sat next to Richie and a Stranger I did not know.

Everyone got quiet as Stan's dad stood up in front of everyone and Stan stood beside him.

"Everyone we are gathered here today to celebrate the coming of age of my own son, Stanley Uris." He spoke and everyone clapped.

Stan walked forward and read from the Torah. I have no idea if it was spoken correctly or not, but he did and that's all that matters. Then everyone clapped again.

"Now for a speech, from the man himself Stanley." Mr Uris passed the microphone to his son and back away to the sideline.

"Um reflecting on what I just read, I like what it says about indifference, well when you're a kid the universe revolves around you. Not always for me, but protected and cared for and you've always had the same friends when you were twelve and one day something bad happens, and you realize that's not true. You wake up and stop caring about other lives besides you're own, but then going on outside your house becomes difficult. Then you start to separate yourself from anything you care about. Neighbors, family, friends. When you're alone as a kid, the monsters see you as weaker, and start to come for you. And you don't even know it till it's too late. So they attack you before you realize it's too late. If any of you opened you're eyes, if you really cared, you would see what we're going through. I guess indifference is apart of growing up. Becoming an adult isn't about be able to vote, or being able to drink, or drive." His dad tried to take the microphone but he walked off the stage, "Becoming an adult, according to the holy scripture of Derry, is learning not to give a shit." He then dropped the microphone and walked away. Everyone watched, scared to do anything.

Then Richie stood up and started clapping, but his mom dragged him back down.

"Everyone please enjoy the refreshments at the table." Stan's dad spoke into the microphone.

Richie and I walked to the refreshment table. I grabbed a tiny plate and put a few grapes and dip onto my plate.

"Holy shit I never knew Stan would be a badass." Richie spoke.

"I seriously didn't expect that. It was kinda hot." I spoke jokingly.

"Ew gross, let's go spy on him and see how bad his dad is gonna ground him." Richie suggested. I looked at him plate and it was piled on with like three sandwiches. Guess my appetite is still gone.

We walked to the lobby and they weren't there.

"Go to the men's restroom and see if they're there." I whisper shouted at him.

"Fine," Richie walked in there and I stood outside awkwardly, then he walked back out.

"Nope, just one very friendly man pissing. What about his dad's office?" Richie spoke. I nodded my head and we sneaked our way back into temple. Then carefully opened the door to the hallway to his dad's office.

We put our ears to the door.

"What the hell was that? Are you trying to embarrass us in front of the whole temple?" his dad asked.

"You don't get it Dad, you're just like everyone else in this town. You don't listen." Stan argued.

"Don't you ever talk to me that, I am your father I deserve your upmost respect-"

"I'll talk to you with respect when you earn it, which you are yet to do." I heard a loud smack. I almost dropped my plate of grapes. I put my hand over my mouth.

"You go back out there and apologize." His father spoke sternly.

"No, why would I? Those people were exactly who I was talking about in my speech." Stan continued to argue.

"Where did you get this attitude from? We didn't raise you like this. Next thing I know you'll run away with some girl and get a tattoo." His dad complained.

"You know what? I might just do that." Stan spoke. I felt a pain in my stomach, like I was gonna throw up.

"What?" His dad said furious.

"Yeah Ive had a girlfriend, for like almost a year now. You would've realized if you ever cared about what I was doing." Stan yelled at him.

I quickly backed away and started walking away at a fast pace, Richie followed confused.

"What the hell y/n? They weren't done." Richie complained as we walked back into the temple. I threw away my plate and sat down in the pews.

"He told his dad. His dad is gonna tell his mom. Then they'll mention it to my parents. And his parents are gonna hate me because he's not supposed to be dating anyone." I started to freak out.

"It's fine, if they don't like you. Make out with him right then and there." Richie suggested.

Then Stan and his dad walked out. And Stan saw me and walked towards me.

"Stan what the hell was that?" I asked him in a quiet whisper yell.

"The speech?" He asked confused.

"No, you telling you're dad that we were dating. Not the best time babe." He day next to me.

"Its was a good plan at the time. And I got so tired of them telling what I can and can't do. Also them thinking they can hold our family name above my head, so I shot them down." Stan explained.

"You guys got some real unresolved issues here." Richie spoke jokingly.

"Stan, your parents probably hate me now. They probably think I'm some tramp that's corrupted their son." I complained I as put my head in hands.

"Actually they would like to have you over for dinner."

"What."
