I am not glad that it was Marty who died, well actually, I wouldn't be glad even if it was anyone else that died, but at least I wouldn't feel sorry if Tom or Trixie were on his place or even Ian since they probably wanted me dead themselves. Rosalie felt the same way as I did about that matter, but there was nothing we could do about that and it wasn't our fault, nor concern.
Marty was always a softy, and since he seemed like a total weakling in the physical sense, he was a guy that nobody could possibly be afraid of. My first impression of Marty was that he had been a smart and clever guy with passionate love for fashion and politics. He liked to discuss the matter regarding any political situation and person who is in power in the country, but he was also, always up for a shopping for some nice pair of shoes, a tie, a shirt, a suit, a perfume etc. I have never met a guy with so much «passion for fashion» as himself.
It's difficult for me to say this now, but he was in fact quite nice when one looks at his personality and character. However, he disappointed me and he disappointed Rosalie even more, we couldn't believe that he was so eager to push his nose into other people's business, especially ours. We were friends, for God's sake! Furthermore, it wasn't some stupid misunderstanding, it was a huge disappointment, it was a thing that could compare with treason and it is unforgivable. On the other hand, he is dead and nobody can change that, he did what he did and he lost his life, but then again, everyone will die, sooner or later. Death is inevitable, and the only shame was that he died so young. He was only twenty years old.
Rosalie and I considered attending the funeral, just to show some respect. Furthermore, we did feel sorry for him actually. We knew that Trixie, Tom, Ian and everyone else who was our enemy at that time would surely be there, but it's a funeral, what bad could possibly happen at the funeral? – I asked myself. However, I said it before and I will say it again: «One can never be careful enough.»
Then, on the day of Marty's funeral, Rosalie and I had a little conversation and we decided to attend the funeral and show some respect for Marty's family and himself. I bought some flowers that morning as a mourning gift. Rosalie and I put on some black clothes, sat in the car and I drove us off to the cemetery, situated just outside the city, where the funeral was about to take place.
As we arrived at the cemetery, I saw Ian and Marty's family in front of the cemetery gates, Trixie and Tom were also there, but so were other familiar faces like Tony, Freddy, Mark (the guy that knew Marty since childhood and he is also my colleague at the hotel) and Harry arrived five minutes after us. I greeted everyone, except Trixie, Tom and Freddy and I presented my mourning gift to Marty's family, I also told them that I was sorry because of his death. Rosalie also told them that she was sorry for Marty and that he was a nice guy. Trixie was crying there in Tom's bosom and a lot of other people were in tears, Ian and Marty's family of course and even Rosalie was getting a bit touched by the sight.
There was one thing I was confused by though, Ian wasn't there, he was nowhere to be seen, I wondered where he was. I tried to be as discreet as I could be and so I waited for Harry to show respect to Jeffersons. As he moved away, I came to him and asked him if he knew where Ian was. He was very confused by that question and asked me if I even knew whose funeral was it. I was shocked and a terrible feeling struck me as he asked me that sarcastic question, but I just answered confusingly: «Marty's? Didn't he die in an aeroplane accident?» Harry told me that he did, but that Ian was also in that plane and he told me that Ian went to New York to stay there with Marty, excluding summer. He told me that Ian hated this city. Ian is dead too, I couldn't believe it, Rosalie and I were shocked as we heard that. Harry was very confused with the fact that we didn't know that Ian also died in the accident, so he laughed at me a bit: «Hahaha, I guess you really didn't know whose funeral you are on.» I also got a small smile on my face. Harry was really a guy that could make me smile even in the darkest of times. He always knew where was the switch to turn the light on.
Well, it was about time for the funeral to begin, the priest had come and lead us through the cemetery gates and to Ian and Marty's grave and so the speech had begun. I couldn't help to notice Tom watching me with hatred in the eyes, as always, while Trixie was all in tears. Many people were crying, but I kind of regretted coming on that funeral. I just wanted it to finish as soon as possible. I wasn't so sorry anymore, it came to my mind that I am attending the funeral of the people that hate me, the people who died while feeling hatred against me. Furthermore, they probably wouldn't feel sorry if it was me on their place, maybe they would even feel satisfaction.
As the funeral finally finished and the priest had finally been done with his speech, Rosalie and I headed back to the parking where we left the car and we were about to return home. I shook hands with Harry, Tony, Mark and everyone else upon leaving, but then I heard Tom shouting. He was about to confront me again, he was yelling at me: «How dare you show up here? Have you no honor even for the dead? Do you want to end up like them eh? I will kill you!» Some people were holding his hands, but he set himself free and started rushing towards me. Luckily, the police had been there too, so they knocked him on the floor. I just said: «I am here just exactly for the fact that I do have honor and I will end up like them one day, that is for sure.» He said nothing more and the police put handcuffs on his hands, lifted him from the floor and threw him in their car to take him to the police station. Trixie fell unconscious, but I just drove home and tried to calm down from this catastrophe.
Rosalie made lasagna for lunch as we arrived home, it was and as a matter of fact, it still is our favourite meal and Rosalie makes really perfect lasagna. We also talked a bit and soon we calmed down. I was still bothered by all the bad things that happened and I know that the death is really a terrible thing to happen, but Trixie and Tom both know that it is not my fault. They are surely aware that I didn't do absolutely anything to deserve so much hatred. I don't know why don't they just enjoy their life and forget about me, they have a relationship, they have some friends, I never even interact with them, I don't know what is their problem? It's like they are psychopaths, like they are searching for problems. I hoped that it will all come to an end soon...
