You are the best thing that ever happened to me •
"How did she figure it out? Were we really that obvious? She was never this intuitive when it came to me, so what the hell was that?" Jack was lying on my bed right next to me. I was sitting, doing something for class on my laptop. We were still figuring out how his mom just knew about us.
"Maybe I was acting suspicious when I was younger. What is the kind of behavior that even qualifies as gay?" He was asking so many questions.
"I don't know. My mom actually didn't know until I told her." I replied. "And if you're not flamboyant, I don't know what sets people off. You weren't the only surprised one sitting at the table."
"I don't know, doesn't even matter, she knows. Now I have to make sure my dad never finds out." He added, drawing shapes on my back with his finger.
"Your mom said she won't tell. So unless your father sees us together, we're cool." I pointed out.
"Yeah. What about that wedding though?" He asked. Oh, right... his mom said Andie was supposed to be his plus one.
"What about it?" I asked.
"Well, I don't want to take Andie." I hoped he wasn't suggesting what I though he was.
"Uhm, then go alone." I said.
"I can't. She's already on the list and was counted into everything, well... not her. My plus one." He scratched his head, running his fingers through his messy hair.
"What are you saying?" I asked him again.
"I'm saying be my plus one." He said it.
"You're kidding, right?" I just wanted to make sure I wasn't hallucinating.
"Wrong. I'm dead serious." He replied.
"How would this work? Weddings are about love and people are happy and prancing around. Practically everyone would see us two, sitting there. We didn't fool anyone. Lisa told me she knew from the start, then your mom. How is this a good idea? Please enlighten me." I huffed.
"I don't care. We can always laugh and say that it's not true. Besides, I'll sell my breakup story to everyone and they're gonna feel sorry for me, which means no one will bother asking." He said. I have to say he had a point, the scenario was totally doable. But I was still worried about his father and it being a special family event, the last thing I'd want is to fuck it up.
"Jesus." I sighed.
"Oh, come on. Cut me some slack, I'm sure everything will be just fine." He insisted.
"You said that about the lunch with your mom and now she knows." I pointed out.
"Yeah but everything was and is fine." He argued.
"I'll agree with you there but what if we screw it up? It's your sister's wedding and people will remember it, like forever." I replied.
"Look, why don't you just say that you don't want to go, no need for sugarcoating." He said. I got that disappointed look from him but I had no idea how to explain it.
