Joe put his hand on the door knob before he turned around seeing Demi looking at him on the verge of tears her parents behind her glaring at him slightly. He felt his hands shaking on the door knob wanting to do anything but enter the house.
"Please don't make me tell them in this way." Joe begged slightly but Eddie shook his head.
"Go in." He demanded trying to keep his temper down as much as he could but Joe could still hear the snap in his voice. Joe took in a deep breath before he opened the door and he held it open for everyone to enter and they did Demi staying close by to Joe who grabbed hold of her hand before shutting the door. When he turned around he saw that his parents had already gathered to see what was going on.
"What's going on?" Denise questioned ignoring the fact that she has never met Demi before and now she was here with her parents too. It just made her think that something was wrong.
"Tell them Joe." Eddie hissed slightly.
"Um, well, Demi could be pregnant." He replied.
"What?" Denise and Paul questioned at the same time.
"When we had a talk this morning you said you were only fourteen and you weren't doing anything like that!" Denise lectured.
"I know, I know," Joe replied. "But we decided to take that step today... I brought protection and had it out ready but I forgot to put it on!" Joe stressed and Demi squeezed his hand the tears slowly rolling down her cheeks.
"You said you weren't coming back until 2040! Come back and tell me you're having a baby when you're that old!" Paul demanded and Joe looked towards the ground.
"You two are in so much trouble." Dianna lectured to them both. It was this kind of reaction that they were expecting from their parents but no mater how much they tried to prepare themselves for it, they couldn't.
"We not only told you this because you deserve to know but we were wondering whether there was anything we can do now to minimize the chances of having a baby?" Demi questioned trying to stay calm but she could feel the tension in the room.
"Oh there is but you're the ones who are gonna buy it, come on, I'll drive you." Paul demanded ushering them both out. They heard Denise offer Dianna and Eddie a drink and them agreeing. They knew they'd still have to put up with them all when they got back too.
___________
Paul pulled up outside a drug store looking back at the two teenagers behind him. He could see they had both been crying but despite the feeling he had towards the situation that they had put themselves in he knew he'd be scared too if he was in their situation and there is a possibility of him being a dad at fourteen.
"Ask for the morning after pill, they will know what you mean." Paul demanded a bit calmer than before. Joe got out of the car first Demi following soon after. They gripped onto one another's hands as they entered the drug store jumping slightly when the bell rung at the top of the door. They both took in a deep breath before going over to the counter.
"Can we have the morning after pill please?" Demi questioned her voice quiet but he was still able to hear her.
"How old are you guys?" He questioned back but he turned around grabbing a box of pills putting them down on the counter.
"Is it any of your business?" Joe answered.
"I guess not, that will be ten bucks." He replied.
"Ten bucks for a pill?" Demi questioned.
"Do you want the baby or not?" He taunted slightly and Joe rolled his eyes putting a ten dollar bill down on the counter and snatched the pill grabbing Demi's hand leading her away. They exited the drug store climbing back into the car.
"Did you get it?" Paul questioned.
"Yeah for ten bucks. The guy was a jerk." Joe mumbled.
"Maybe it will teach you a lesson." Paul demanded as he pulled away after looking for oncoming traffic. Joe squeezed Demi's hand when he noticed that she was crying again and she leaned her head on his shoulder Joe kissing the top of her head.
"We'll get through this." He whispered just loud enough so she could hear but she didn't reply. She found herself playing with his fingers trying to think of anything else but the baby that they could have created together.
They were only fourteen, they didn't know how to be parents.
