Double Take

Chapter 3

*Lynn's POV*

All of last night I was decorating my new room at Joe's. The wall color is a cheery lilac with white trim on the ceiling and white base boards. I have a silver vanity with a gorgeously shaped mirror attached,that's where I will keep all of my makeup and hair products. I have medium/dark wood floors, but most of it is covered by a gigantic white shag rug that comes out from underneath my bed. My bed is my favorite part of the whole room because it is huge! I'm so thankful that I have the best big brother ever. I love him so much, and I tell him that all the time. Joe really went all out and got Brynn and I king sized beds! It is so soft and comfy, you feel like you are laying on a cloud. The sheets are like a grown up print of light pink and light purple flowers, and the comforter is a white and lilac chevron print. The silver bead frame ties the bead together and it looks so fancy, I feel like I'm in a hotel. Other than that, the only other things in my room are a dresser (I don't know why though, my closet has more than enough space for all my clothes) and a pink and purple dream catcher hanging above my bed that my dad got for me from some third world country while he was on a tour for the war.

This morning I was woken up by a text from my boyfriend, Liam.

Wakey, wakey baby! How are ya doing? Ready for our first day of senior year? Remember princess if you aren't ready to go to school without your mom, I will come over and we will watch movies all day :)

Just that text from my adorable boyfriend brought tears to my eyes. God, he is so perfect.

As good as that sounds babe, mom would want me to go to school today! Today we vote for Cheer captain and the girls nominated me. Love youu

Now that im a wake i quickly sent that text to Liam looking at a picture of my mom on my vanity.

Aww man :( Love you, too. See you in a half hour <3

I get ready for the day, throwing my long dark tresses in to a high pony and pulling my cheer uniform on since today we vote for which Senior gets to be cheer captain. Both Brynn and I are nominated. I will be equally happy with whoever wins, even if we have hardly spoken to each other since mom died. Our rooms are right across from each other and I don't even know what her room looks like. Heck she is never home. Last night instead of having dinner with me and Joe, like we planned, she went out to someones party whom I have never even heard of and didn't come back home til like three a.m or something. I throw my phone in my bag and head downstairs.

"Good Morning-- erm-- Br-- Lynn!"

"Morning," I say sweetly to Tyler my brother's ridiculously hot roommate. I have had a crush on him since my brother met him in seventh grade. Not that it matters because I think Tyler has always had a thing for Brynn, and I have a boyfriend.

"We are just waiting on you sister she got in late last night. Joe was called into work so I have to take you guys to school," Tyler says swinging his keys.

"Grrrr."

"Speaking of the devil," Tyler mutters under his breath.

"Morning sleepy head!" I say like nothing happened and we are back to normal, as in, not fighting.

She doesn't say anything though. I wonder if it was because she was tired or if she was just flat out ignoring me. I grab a banana and head out the door to Tyler's car while Brynn is trying to smooth out her wrinkled cheer uniform. I sigh and think to myself At least she remembered to wear it, even if it has been folded up since last season.

"Well dont you look cheery," Tyler says to my sister

"Fuck off," replies my sister.

"Well this is pleasent," I say just above a whisper to Tyler.

He gives me a knowing look as we drive away to school.

"Guess who!" Liam says coming up behind me at my locker and shoving flowers in my face.

"Oh my god, babe, you shouldnt have," I coo.

"Yeah, should have!" Liam says right when a group of girls walk behind him and he clearly checks them out.

"Liam!" i shreik.

"What?" Liam asks like he doesnt know what im talking about.

"You just checked them out!" i say just above a whisper.

"No. I didn't. Anyways, love you. Gotta go," Liam says quickly.

"Love you!" i yell to him because he is already fifteen feet away from me.

Sometimes he is so funny! I say to myself sniffing the pink roses that he knows are my favorites.

The day went on just as i expected: Physics, English, History, lunch, then Calculous. The whole day was mostly spent thinking about my mom and not talking to Brynn. At lunch in the little seating area where seniors are allowed to eat, along with the Cafeteria. I met up with my two bestest best friends in the whole world, Adrian Marks and Christina Daniels.

"Oh my god how excited are you about cheer tonight? Captain Lynn" Christina asks me with a wink. She is also a cheerleader.

" Very! But you know me I don't really care if I win. I will be happy either way!" I respond confidently.

"Before choir practice I will totally text you good luck! Even though you know you are gonna win!" Adrian tells me. Adrain with her chocolately brown hair like mine which is always straightened down her back is our school's best singer. The guys throw themselves at her but she doesn't date. She will occasionally hook up with a couple guys,  but she says she isn't ready for a relationship. She just wants to focus on her music. I admire her focus.

Christina, however, is the comeplete opposite of Adrain, she is, well, for lack of a better term, typical white girl. Her blonde hair always in a messy top not on top of her hair, Uggs and yoga pants even in the Albuquerque heat. She always looks pretty and put together, but other than her cheer uniform, that is all she wears to school .

After lunch I said goodbye to my friends and headed to Calculous. On my way there, I run into Liam.

"Dude whats up I was yelling to you in the cafeteria and you never aknowledged me!"

"Oh, sorry baby, I didn't eat in the cafeteria.That must have been Brynn." I told Liam

"No!" he said clearly getting mad out of the blue, "I know the difference between you and Brynn, Damn it!"

"Liam, its okay, I get it with our cheer uniforms on we look like the same person. I under-"

"No! I know I saw you!" He interupted as the warning bell rang, "I gotta go!"

"Okay see ya later, text me!" I yelled down the hallway. I dont know why he gets so defensive sometimes.

One more class til we find out who is cheer captian! I said to my self excitedly!

"Okay girls! Settle down! I have the results!"  Ms. Parker says at the end of cheer practice.

The whole practice I was getting good luck messages from half the school, including Adrain. Even Brynn, that was the only thing she said to me all day. The only things I said to her were 'Thank you' and 'Good Luck to you, too' things really aren't getting better.

But, that is the last thing that im thinking about because Ms. Parker says, "Okay girls drum roll please!"

The whole squad cheers and bangs things.

This is it. This is it.

"Our captain is...Ms. Brynn Matthews"
