*Lynn's POV*

“And our last nominee is… Lynn Mathews!” Mr. Yates exclaims in the microphone.

“W-What?” I question, truly taken by surprise. Homecoming Queen was always Brynn’s thing.

“Holy shit!” I hear Chris say as she and Adrian stand up off of the gym bleachers, clapping and cheering.

I stand up with a huge smile on my face. I smooth out my white skirt and walk down to the middle of the gym. On my way to the platform Brynn gives me one of her famous dirty looks. Her dagger like brown eyes follow my every move as I walk up and stand beside Paisley Hayes, a junior who was also nominated.

After assembly it was time to go home. Chris begged me to come over so we can talk about Homecoming.  Since Liam took me to school he is giving Adrian and I a ride to her house. Dran and I make our way to the senior lot. There are a lot of people huddling in a big circle in the middle of the parking lot. Ooh. I hope it is not a fight. Don’t people realize how trashy fighting makes them look?

“What the hell is going on?”  I whisper to Adrian as we push through the crowd. “Oh my gosh!” I say, my hand flies up to my face when I see that on the hood of Liam’s car is a heart made of lilies and on the inside of the heart is a white iPad with a red bow tied on the corner. As I got closer I saw that the iPad said ‘Homecoming?’ in big, bold, swirly, writing.

“You can keep the iPad if you say yes,” Liam says, making me notice him. He hands me a big bouquet of lilies (Yuck!).

“Omg, babe, that’s so sweet!” I say pulling him into a hug.

Before I can say anymore Adrian opens her mouth, “Um, not to ruin the moment, but why did you give Lynn lilies? Lynn hates lilies… don’t you know that they are Brynn’s favorite not Lynn’s?”

“Dran!” I squeal glaring at my best friend, “It’s yes by the way. Just because I need a new iPad,” I joke facing Liam again.

“Wait babe, what is Adrian talking about? I thought that lilies were your favorite?” Liam says releasing his arms from my waist.

“Well, no, but that doesn’t matter. It’s the thought that counts,” I reassure my boyfriend.

“Uh, yeah. Sure,” Liam says walking away from me. Dran and I get into his car and we drive away to Christina’s place. The whole drive was awkward and silent. Despite my attempts to hold Liam’s hand he always pulled away, not saying a word.

“God what is his problem? As soon as we got in the car he acted like he had a stick so far up his ass it blocked his voice tubes!” Adrain says as we get out of Liam’s car.

“What?” I chuckle at my best friend’s analogy, “He just gets a little defensive when he confuses me with Brynn. I mean I don’t really care. Physically it’s really hard to tell us apart!”

“Well what he confuses isn’t always physical. He has gotten you pink roses before, he just flat out forgot. He needs to pay you more attention. He is always on that damn phone! Who does he talk to twenty-four-seven? I mean come on!” Adrian yells shaking her head.

“Oh my god, Dran, you need to lay off. He is a really nice guy; you just don’t know him that well yet!”

“I know him well enough to know that he is trouble and that he is going to hurt you. I don’t want that to happen to you,” Dran says with sadness in her voice.

By then we were at Christina’s door and before we even had the chance to knock, Christina opens the door.

“God, took you guys long enough! What happened?” Chris wonders.
