*Brynn's POV*

"Our captain is... Ms. Brynn Matthews."

What? Is she serious? I'm cheer captain?

I couldn't believe it. I heard the applause of my fellow cheer leaders and a few of them say "Congrats Brynn!" and I was giving warm smiles by my team.

"Well we all knew you'd win. I mean why wouldn't you?" Tanya told me. Tanya and I first met in sixth grade. We hated each other at first because we both had a crush on this guy Brandon in our class. But after Brandon left in the middle of the year, Tanya and I became the best of friends. Besides Lynn, Tanya was my closest girl friend, but now I think Tanya is my only close girl friend since Lynn and I haven't been talking.

"Thanks, Tanya," I smiled to her. I guess I should have more confidence in myself. Tanya's right, there's no reason why I wouldn't have won the spot of cheer captain.

I looked back at Lynn who was sitting on the bleacher behind me, but she wasn't looking at me. I wonder if she was mad that she didn't get the spot of cheer captain, but Lynn has always been a selfless person and congratulates people no matter what. She must still be mad about the day we fought. It feels like forever ago, but it broke something between us. I haven't had a full conversation with her since the fight and each day it seemed like she was moving farther and farther out of my life.

I must have been staring out into space because when I came back to reality Tanya was snapping her fingers in my face.

"Earth to Brynn," Tanya said as she kept snapping her fingers in front of my face.

"S-s-sorry," I said as I came back to Earth.

"Are you okay?" Tanya asked me with a concerned look of her face.

"Yeah, I'm fine. Why wouldn't I be?" I replied trying to sound as happy as possible so she wouldn't ask me tons of questions. But I guess I wasn't too convincing because she asked me another question.

"You and Lynn. You guys have had a lot of distance between you two. What's going on?"

"We got into a fight. I don't want to get into it right now,"

"Alright, well I better be getting home now, text me later boo, love ya!" Tanya said grabbing her bag and walking out of the gym.

I looked back to see that Lynn was already gone and now it was just me and a few other girls left in the gym. I grabbed my bag and walked out passing the other girls who exchanged smiles and "Congratulations!" with me. Once I got outside, I pulled out of my phone to text my best friend Kyle.

Heyy! Wanna come pick me up from practice and go get a bite to eat?(:

He text back insanely quickly,

Yeah sounds good(: on my way now.

I waited about twenty minutes sitting on the steps in front of the main doors of school and then Kyle pulled up in his black mustang.

"Hello, Ms. Cheer Captain," Kyle greeted me as I hopped into the passenger side of his car.

"How'd you know already?" I asked him. I just got the news myself and haven't even told anybody.

"Tanya can't keep anything quiet for more than five seconds," he chuckled holding up his phone. That didn't surprise me, anytime Tanya founf out something new she'd tell people. Unless it was a secret, then she'd keep it. She was basically a trustworthy blabber mouth if that makes sense.

I giggled at that and said, "So where do you want to go eat?"

"Umm how about McDonald's, I'm craving a big mac,"
