It's Monday morning, I was combing my hair in front of the mirror with a piece of bread in my mouth. I'm late for school. I'm a second-year medical college student. Yep! I'll be someone who'll help the sick one day but here's the thing, I don't want to be a doctor. It's kind of funny to think that all I ever dreamed of is to live in a simple lovely house with my very own loving family and have a garden of my own. I wanna raise chickens, plant tomatoes and pretty flowers, while my kids would run across a wide grass yard. But you know, dreams like this sound impractical with the changing demands of this world, so I gave medical school a try since this is what my parents wanted. My dad is a doctor, he's a cardiologist and a cardiothoracic surgeon and so he suggested for me to try medical school since I was still undecided with the profession I wanted to pursue in the future.

"Honey you're already 19, please eat your food on the table."

My mom said as she grabbed the comb from my hand and started combing my hair for me. I know she's treating me like a baby, I resisted a lot of times but she's always insisting to do the simple things for me. I understand her oozing concern towards me because I'm her only child.

The main door suddenly open with Zia's head popping in.

"Lauren! Oh good morning Mrs. Lopez."

Zia said with a smile as she slightly bowed her head as a sign of respect. After putting on my shoes I gave my mom a quick kiss and head towards the door to follow Zia.

"Bye, mom."

"Wait how about your breakfast?"

I look at her with a smile on my face as I showed her a thumbs up.

"I'm ok mom."

I didn't wait for her response as I happily pulled Zia out.

"Bye Mrs. Lopez!"

Zia shouted, before closing the door behind her.

I was quiet during the ride with my gaze fixed on the sparkling sea outside the bus window when I heard Zia sighed out of the blue.

"200 years from now, do you think the world will still be the same?"

Zia said while looking at her science book. I quizzically looked at her with a smile on the corner of my lips. It was a random question that made me think and imagine what would the world be like 200 years from now.

"Probably not. Men will never be satisfied and will never stop to improve life. It's scary to think sometimes that improvement means changing the world just to provide a comfortable life for everyone. but I'm sure that 200 years from now love will still be the same. And it's the second constant thing in this world next to change."

Zia had a playful smile painted on her face with the last line that I said.

"You know what? You should've been taking liberal arts course instead of going to med school."

I giggled at what I heard and showed her a funny face. She let out another sigh as she looks out of the bus window.

"I hope we're really on our way to progress and I hope we're not destroying what we have right now."

I also hope the same. The world is beautiful and the world will always be. God's creation would always be indescribable and fascinating but it's sad that we, humans, destroy something that's not really ours instead of protecting it. I hope 200 years from now children can still breathe fresh air, swim and enjoy clean water, climb trees and run down a hill.

"See you later after class."

I said as I wave my hands at Zia. We're taking up medical courses but we do have different majors. As I head straight to my room I saw Casper sitting by the window while scribbling something on his notes.
