"Bloody hell." The swear had escaped from Caras mouth as soon as she had tried to walk down the schools stairs. It was the morning after her first real practice session with the schools volleyball team. Yesterday she had handled it quite gracefully, but today the pain seemed to have taken over as she walked with a continuous limp and an expression of pain on her face.
"Ow.", she said with each step, walking approximately at the speed of a tortoise. "Owowow."
She was wearing a baseball cap backwards, which held her straight dirty-blonde hair into place and wearing no makeup today, which meant that you could see the faint rings of exhaustion under her blue eyes.
"You're doing great, babe!", Jourdan, who was already waiting at the bottom of the stairs, encouraged her suffering girlfriend.
Cara just made another one of her painful grimaces and continued her fight her way down the building. Taylor almost felt sorry, watching her, after all she was the one who had caused it. Indirectly at least. But on the other hand, Cara had practically begged her for that. She didn't have to do that, indeed Taylor would probably more than happy if she didn't, because that would mean she didn't have to ask Karlie out to a date. So it was Cara's fault.
"When did all of this stop being a good idea, again?", Cara complained though her gritted teeth while almost letting herself fall onto the next step, to avoid bending her knee and therefore using her muscles.
Taylor smiled. "I don't think it ever was."
"Yeah, I don't listen to you, you are just to chicken to ask Karlie out on a date."
Taylor laughed at that, while she watched Cara continue her painful routine. The American hadn't watched her during practice, yesterday, neither had Jourdan, but from the texts she had gotten afterwards, she came to the conclusion that 'very exhausted' was an understatement. Cara made it seem like she had been on the edge to death, even made Taylor promise that she would attend the Britons funeral and better made sure that Karlie came along to. Otherwise she would draw some bad consequences. Her exact words were something along the line of "or I come back from the death and haunt you till you regret every decision you ever made in your poor life" and Tayor assumed that Cara was the kind of person to keep her words. At least in this context.
According to herself, Cara had done every task the others had to do as well (which was remarkable since the others were a lot more in shape), but it later resulted in her not being able to feel her shoulders, her forearms and the most parts of her legs. Obviously the feeling had come back today, proven by the pain she expressed for every movement she made.
Jourdan continued her encouraging yelling. "You almost did it!" Indeed there were only about three steps or so left. But judging from Caras speed, this would still take its while. It felt like they had spent about half of their break already.
While Cara was slowly approaching the end, the Kloss sisters suddenly passed the three friends. "I see someone suffers the consequences of yesterday.", Kimby commented, a sly smirk on her face.
It did take Cara only the beat of a second to shoot back a similarly nice answer. There was the same sly grin decorating her mouth, as it was to be found on Kimby. "Oh shut up, will ya? I am sure I did more exercise yesterday than you ever did in your whole life."
The twin laughed. "You wish."
"I don't think 'walking to the fridge and back' classifies as exercise, Kimby.", Kristine now took a turn to mock her sister.
"Dating the volleyball captain doesn't either.", that was Kimby again. Taylor had to admit, she was really good at that. Always having something to reply.
