Charles was a few minutes late for school. Nobody had left commons for classes yet though and when he walked In nothing seemed amiss. A few eyes were on him but he just waved like normal. People laughed but he payed not attention.
It wasn't until lunchtime that he'd fully understood what this was. Why people laughed and stared.
People's had showed him a photo on their phone of him and Samuel at the mall. He knew it was Alexander but that wasn't his priority. As he was getting hassled and laughed at while slurs were thrown at him at lunch his eyes scoured the place for Samuel.
He saw him earlier but he was nowhere to be seen now.
"You're a faggot" he heard being yelled at him.
He pushed the person aside "that's great I need to find Samuel." He said, annoyed.
He walked out into the hallway not caring who's seen him leave the lunch room because he, right now, was a man on a mission.
He looked in the empty class rooms and tried to listen carefully. He called Samuels name relativity quietly but there was no reply.
As he walked midway down the hall he heard light sniffles coming from the bathroom. When he stepped in he saw Samuel, sat in the corner, his head in his knees while he was shaking and sobbing.
"Samuel," Charles said, making Samuel look up.
When he did look up his face was red and puffy, as were his eyes and his nose was running. Tears strolled down his face onto his nose and down his chin and this sight more than anything make Charles was to cry.
"Samuel, I know this is hard and I know you don't cope with bulling well but you have to be proud of who you are. Don't let this bring you down it's just a bump and I'll always be here."
He reached his hand out for Samuel to grab and Samuel did, squeezing it hard as he wiped his face onto the knees of his jeans.
They locked eyes and Charles smiled down at Samuel who was trying to smile through the tears. Charles wrapped his arms around Samuel.
"If anyone does anything to you, I'll kick their ass." Charles whispered.
Samuel coughed out a laugh which sounded distorted because he was still crying heavily.
"Wash your face and be strong." He told Samuel before standing up and walking slowly away, leaving Samuel in the bathroom alone.
"Railroad?" Samuel asked quickly before Charles completely left.
Charles looked back, nodded his head, and left completely.
With a day full of harassment and laughs, it was a huge relief to be walking to the railroad. But when he got there, as usual Samuel was already there, he was playing with a purple flower.
When Charles stepped over Samuel looked up. He instantly dropped the flower. "Hey." He said quietly.
"You okay?" Charles asked.
Samuel looked down. "I'm as good as I can be I suppose.
Charles nodded, understandingly, and for the first time in forever, he had nothing to say to Samuel. There were never awkward silences or times when one couldn't come up with something to say but this was different.
"I came out to my mom yesterday." Samuel said quietly, as he sat cross legged in front of Charles.
"How'd it go?" He asked.
"A lot better than I expected."
"If I told my parents they'd yell at me, get drunk, and then forget that I even said anything the next day."
Samuel swallowed hard, he too didn't know what to say.
"Charles, I can't handle all of his at school." Samuel said, his talking sounded scratchy like he was on the brink of crying.
"It's school. It'll probably just pass over the next day. It'll all work out, don't worry. If not, just embrace it."
Samuel scooted closer to Charles, wrapped his arms around his waist and pulled him into a hug. He laid his head on Charles shoulder. Neither of them said anything until Samuel whispered into Charles neck, "I really love you and I hope you never leave me."
"I'll never leave you." Charles said as he ran his hands on Samuels back.
