It’s Will.

When I get back to my house my mum is putting food on the table in front of my dad and sister. When I come in, they all look up and smirk.

I look at them all suspiciously. “What?”

My mum sits down at the table and starts to eat. “Are you hungry?”

“No, I had pizza,” I say, going over to the sink and getting some water. “But why are you all looking at me like that?”
They all continue to eat, trying to look innocent.

“What?” I demand exasperatedly.

Leila smirks and looks up at me.

“So is Alyssa your girlfriend?” my mum asks casually.

I feel my face grow slightly warm. “Um . . .” what do I do? If I actually officially say yes, then will they start talking to her parents about us? That can’t happen. “I don’t know. Why?”
“What do you mean, ‘why’?” mum laughs. “You have been spending a lot of time with her. And you just had a pretty good kissing session at her door.”

I stare at her, my face burning. “Mum!”

The three of them laugh.

“She is a pretty girl,” my dad says, raising his eyebrows.

I just stand there, defenceless.

“It’s OK, Will,” dad says finally. “I’ve been there.” He signals to my mother. I know they met when they were young. But seriously, this is getting embarrassing.

“Right then.” I put my cup down and then nod. “I’ll be upstairs.”

I now have a new least favourite moment.

The next day it’s Saturday, so I call at Alyssa’s house again. Her dad opens the door, and looks at me, frowning. “Yes?”
I try to swallow my nervousness, but it’s still there. “Um, hello. I’m a friend of Alyssa’s. Just wondering if she’s in.”
He smiles. “Ah. Yes. Will, isn’t it?”
I nod slowly.

“You can come in.” Then he steps back, and after hesitating for a few seconds, I step inside slowly.

I look around. The hall’s bright with white walls and mirrors and it smells of vanilla. It’s not totally pristine like some sort of strict show home but it’s way neater than our house.

“Alyssa!” He calls up the stairs.

I hear a door open upstairs and then I see her at the top of the stairs, looking down at her feet as she runs down. Oh, God. She’s gorgeous. She has her hair down, reaching her waist, and a short blue skirt and white tank top on. When she gets half way down the stairs she looks up, and sees me then smiles in a slightly shocked way as her green eyes catch onto mine. She then looks at her dad’s face nervously.
