They don't do the prom at school. The school doesn't even organise it, the kids do, because with us being at a private school they think any dances or extra curricular things should be not mixed. They want us to go to their prom, at our own schools, the guys without girls, and the girls without guys. But every year it never happens and Year Eleven go to their own prom - at the town hall.
The outside of the building is packed with people. Lewis's chauffeur opens the door for us and we all jump out, Alyssa immediately grabbing my hand. Damn, she looks stunning in that dress. Freakin' beautiful. If normally she's gorgeous, then I don't know how to describe her tonight.
"Alright, guys, picture time first!" Reina yells. She calls some geeky looking girls over and one of them takes all our phones and cameras, taking pictures with each one. The days are long in summer so even though it's half eight the sun is setting now.
I throw my phone to Tai and ask him to take a picture of Alyssa and I. I stand behind her with my arms wrapped around her waist, my chin on her shoulder, and she let's out a laugh just as Tai photographs it.
"Let's go, guys!" Evan yells, his arm linked with Reina's as Tai hands me back my phone.
We all make our way up the steps, to the door where we flash our tickets at Roger Aspen - he's the guy who organised the whole thing. I notice him checking out Alyssa and I give him the stare, pulling her away quickly. He's not exactly a geek but he's not someone I would hang with. He doesn't know the rules of guy behaviour, such as what went on back there - checking out another guy's girlfriend.
In the lobby there aren't many there, they're all rushing up the stairs to what sounds like the actual dance room, seen as music is drifting down the stairs. I spot a group of girls by the side, and-
"Hey guys!" Avril exclaims, appearing out of nowhere. She's in the sluttiest prom dress ever - it's black and has one of those skirts that are dead short at the front and just trail out behind her at the back. The neckline is low, and as she turns around to speak to Cherice I see there is barely any back part to it at the top.
I glance at Alyssa, who is staring at Avril with caution.
"Let'a go upstairs," I say to her, Tai and Zara. The three of them nod and we leave the others alone with Avril and Talia, who is wearing a revolting yellow short thing.
"Who is Avril's date?" Zara asks openly as we climb the stairs.
Tai snorts. "Probably had to come alone, the fucking bitch."
His comment makes me smirk slightly, and we reach the top of the stairs, to a short corridor.
It's hectic. There are tables with drinks everywhere, people squashed in together in the middle, people taking pictures, making out, shouting, laughing, running around. There are big grand double doors at the end, opposite us, showing us into a dark room, with colourful strobe lights flashing.
The music is so loud I can't hear Alyssa when she looks up at me and says something.
"What?" I practically yell, grinning.
She leans up to my ear. "I said," I hear her say, "I'm thirsty! D'you want to get a drink?"
I only nod at her and she tugs me over to a table with Coke, Fanta, Lemonade, and some kind of punch. I settle on a Coke as Alyssa picks up a Lemonade.
As I pull her into a corner where we can stand for a few seconds, some guy jostles into her. I look round at him and he looks at me apologetically, holding his hands up.
"How are you feeling so far?" I ask Alyssa as we stand safely in a corner near the table.
She nods and takes a sip of her drink. "Fine. Kind overwhelmed, but just fine." she laughs.
