Alyssa here.
I don’t think there will be another day until the end of the school year when I will not hear the word ‘prom’, ‘dance’, or ‘dress’.
Every girl in my year is already going mad about the prom. Most are talking about dresses, the rest are talking about boys, or both. Everyone is predicting who will ask who out.
And I’m number one on the list.
“Will Palmer is going to ask you!” Reina Bloom comes over to me as I’m getting changed for PE on Friday and grins. She sits next to me in a few classes and I know she has some sort of connection with Will. She used to talk about him a lot last year, mentioning the bus quite often.
I smile weakly. “I don’t know.”
“Oh, he will, don’t worry!” Zara exclaims. She’s been hyper all week because of some strange-sounding date with Tai Rockwell. She didn’t go into too much detail about it, but she keeps mentioning Tai.It’s annoying, but at least she’s not being mean and bitchy like Myra. Myra has left us now. Instead, she hangs out with Leanne and Jo, occasionally I see them talking to Avril, but basically they just mess around, loudly.
“I’ve already picked out a dress!” Reina tells me and Zara excitedly, smiling, her blue eyes brighter than ever.
I smile at her, as I feel my pocket buzz, making me jump. I wrap my gym skirt around me, and then pull out my phone, and open a message from Will.
Hey, can you meet me on the roof of your school?
Zara peers at me as I start to text a reply back, my heart pounding.
“What’s that?” she asks.
“Will,” I mutter, writing, I thought I had told you to start behaving. Or at least to try.
I feel them exchange glances, and Reina bites into her apple, raising an eyebrow. “That guy can’t keep away, huh?”
I feel myself blush, and they both laugh.
Then their laughter dies down, and I see why. Avril strolls into the changing room, casting dark looks everywhere, Talia and Cherice on either side of her. She narrows her eyes at me, smirking, and then walks over to her sports locker.
It’s people like Avril that are great at gym and sports. She’s on the netball, hockey, athletics team, with all the sporty, popular people. Myra is one of them. And then there are people like me, and Zara, and Reina too I guess. We don’t really care. I’d say I am not as bad as Zara, who runs away from the ball, or Reina, who gets five minutes into cross country and gives up, but I don’t have amazing stamina and everything.
My phone buzzes again, and when I look at it, I see Will’s new message, Just for a few moments. I’ve got something to show you.
