Gilbert
Too soon, the laughter is over, and Matthew has handed Blue off to me so he can fix something for us all to eat. The awesome kid snuggles up to me, though, so it's not so bad. But that laughing fit had me thinking for a moment that we could be a family. I wish it could be so, but there's no way Matthew would ever love me in that way. And there's no guarantee that Blue would like that, either. He'd probably think we're crazy and run away.
While Matt makes the food, I take Blue into the living room to play with him. We're playing with the cars we bought him the other day when the door bell rings. Then it suddenly bursts open, and I toss myself in front of Blue, expecting extreme danger. Oh, it's dangerous, all right. Just not bodily harm.
My voice is thick with contempt as I say, "Hello, Francis."
Matthew
The door bell rings in the middle of the sounds of Gil and Blue making 'vroom' and 'erch' sounds as the 'drive' the toy cars and then 'crash' them into each other. I start to go see who it is, and the door is suddenly thrown open. I duck back into the kitchen, grab the knife I was using, and race back into the other room. Francis Bonnefoy stands in my doorway. My thoughts mirror Gil's as he says with scorn, "Hello, Francis."
"Ah, ma friends! Nice to see you, wee?"
I throw my towel at him. "What are you doing here, Francis? Get out of my house." I almost said "our house", but managed not to at the last minuet.
"I cannot visit my friends now? I'm hurt. But, after all, who I'm really here to see is little Catlandia."
Blue peaks out from behind Gilbert. "Huh? Why me?" he squeaks.
"I have come to offer you to come with me, and let me raise you."
Gilbert speaks up, "Hold up just one minuet. How'd you even find out about Blue?" The boy snuggles up closer to Gil.
"Oh, a little birdie told me." At this, Gilbird, Gil's pet bird, flutters in through the broken door. "Well, actually I heard it from Feliciano, who heard it from Ludwig, who heard it from Heracles, who heard it from Kiku. So it's a long story, but let me have the kid!"
Blue squeaks again and runs to me. I set the knife down and pick him up, and I can feel how he feels safe when he's with me. "No! I want to stay here!"
Holding him tightly, I turn to the person that is not welcome here. "Get out. Now." Everyone is shocked at my tone. It reminds me of a mother scolding someone who nearly hurt her child, and I take confidence in that as my voice starts to rise. "Francis Bonnefoy, if you don't get out of my house right now, I'm calling Alfred over and he's going to kick your butt. And he's nearby, so I suggest you leave." I scare myself as my voice drops an entire octave as I say, "Now."
Surprised, he turns and runs. After a moment, Gil gets up from the floor and takes Blue from me. I let him. I grab the knife and towel, and head back into the kitchen. They follow me. "Hey, awesome friend. What's wrong?"
"Yeah, what's wrong, bithca? You look sad."
Sighing, I turn back to them. "He annoys the crap outa me, that's all. I'm just glad he's gone."
I turn back to the food I'm cooking, and after a few moments I hear the swinging kitchen door open and close, then more car sounds as they resume their playing.
Stupid Francis. I was getting close to admitting to Gil I love him, someway or another.
