Nate Maloley

I sat looking at my phone screen while Derek rolled himself a joint and Hayes ate his taco that he wanted so bad. I wasn't typing at all just looking at the google search bar only touching my screen once it start to fade to go to sleep.

"What are you doing, bro?" Derek asked nodding at me obvious I haven't moved in a while.

"You look like a middle school girl staring at her phone waiting for a text from a guy." Hayes said taking a bite of his taco.

I sighed and looked at Hayes. "You know Devon well," I state and he nods.

"Her again, man?" Derek groans.

I ignore him.

"Have you picked up on some of her French?" I asked curious.

"Not really," he shakes his head. "In your guys argument the other day, what did she start speaking French?" He asked.

I nodded. "She said a sentence or two in French and I have no idea what she said."

Hayes laughed. "Yeah, she tends to do that sometimes. What'd it sound like?" He questions opening his next taco.

"Man, I don't know." I groan.

"Well than I can't help," he shrugs.

"Was it line she gave me at the beach? Maybe she was trying to pick you up, bro!" Derek exclaimed.

"I highly doubt that," I state shaking my head. I grabbed a lighter. "Especially with how are conversation was going." I mumble. I brought the joint to my lips lighting it.

"Well think," Hayes said rolling his eyes.

"Why you helping?" Derek asked Hayes.

"Yeah, didn't you and Nash want me to back up off of her?" I question raising a brow at him.

He sighed, nodding his head. "Yeah, we do." He continued to nod. "But when she came back after your argument she's been off."

"What do you mean?" I ask.

"Don't worry about." He waved me off. "Think of what she said." He pushed me.

After a while of smoking my joint and trying to remember what she said I remembered something. "I remember her saying 'j'aime'." I tell him.

"Well I know 'j'aime' basically is love or like."

"Wow helpful." I roll my eyes. "That totally helps us form a sentence, that wasn't long."

He rolled his eye. "Other words change the meaning though." He said. "Google translate it."

"Search j'aime, you get me?" He questions and I nod as I type away.

"So 'j'aime' translates to 'I like'." I tell them.

"How do you say 'me'?" Derek asked and searched it having it voice speak it. Moi.

"She didn't moi." I tell them.

"Okay, what about 'I'?" Derek asked.

"Je." Hayes answers. "What I know some."

I laughed. "Not je either."

"When?" Quand.
"My?" Mon.
"That?" Cette.
"The?" La.

"She didn't say la but she said something very similar like," I thought. "Le." I said quickly when I remembered.

"Okay, then what's that say?"

"Le is the." Hayes rolled his eyes.

"So we have Le, j'aime." I state.

"Google it in order she said it." Hayes suggested.

"The I love." I state answering what it read. "Or I'm guessing the I like."

Hayes looked at me giving me a look. I furrowed my eyebrows at him. "You know what she said, huh?"

He nodded.

"Then what is it?" Derek asked.

Hayes just shook his head basically saying he wasn't going to say.

I sat back thinking of possible things she said. Derek gave up and placed the joint to his lips while Hayes sat back in thought.

My mind continued to run wild with words that could of been in that small sentence.

I scrolled through my phone while we were all silence first I scrolled through Instagram then google search after typing in French words.

I started typing in words seeing what that translated to till I got to boy, guy.

Boy, Garçon.

Guy, Mec.

Le mec que j'aime, the guy I like.
