Devon Devereaux
"Dev, Dev," Lily ran into the backroom where I was doing inventory. "Switch please? Sarah is out there." She gave me pleading eyes. I rolled my eyes and handed her the clipboard.
"Just tell her y'all are done, for good." I tell her standing in the door way. "Or do you not want to be done for good?"
"Just get out there," she rolled her eyes and pushed me out the door. I laughed and walked up behind the counter to where Sarah was, who was waving me over.
"She's hiding?" She asked with a sad sigh. She knew the answer.
"Normal?" I asked her.
"Nah, just a coke." I nodded and grabbed a clean glass. Taking the ice scoop in my hand filling the clasd with ice. "I want her back, D'."
I pressed the Coca Cola button watching the glass fill to the top, once it was done I placed it in front of her with a napkin on underneath. "You see, everytime you come into this bar and sit in this exact seat, saying the same thing to me." My eyes went up to the opening door sighing when I saw Nate walk through and walk towards the counter and sitting down looking at me. I look back at Sarah. "Sarah, stop with all that shit and tell her that you want her and acutally fight for her when it gets tough. I know she's done with your shit and your done with hers." I took the store room key off my key ring and placed it in front of her. "Either go in there for the last time or leave."
She looked at the key and picked it up playing with it in her hand.
I walked down to Nate and stood in front of him. "Why are you here?" I asked.
"You wouldn't talk to me at Hayes'." He never broke eye contact.
"For a reason." I spoke. Before he could say anything I asked what he wanted.
"To talk to you."
"I'm working, and if your not ordering anything leave." I stated.
"Fine, a water." I grabbed a bottle of room temperate water not wanting to spend any time on him and placed it in front of him. I turned to walk away from him. "Devon, please. Just hear me out."
I sighed and turned around crossing my arms.
"I didn't mean anything I said." His eyes stared into mine. I just looked at him my arms crossed. "Everything I said wasn't true, I don't believe anything I had said. I was just frustrated with the guys then we argued and I didn't know what to do."
"I have to work Nate." I said picking up a rag and walking over to an empty table to wipe it down.
"Devon." He spoke quietly and gave a sigh. I heard the front door shut and looked to see him gone.
---
"Bye Lily, love ya!" I shouted back at her with a laugh as I shut the the front door of the bar. I locked up the front because she was gonna lock the back when she left.
I pulled my hood on as I waited for my ride to pull up considering it was starting to rain lightly.
Seeing two cars in the lot, Lily's and Hayes' I walked over to Hayes'. I sighed and knocked on the passenger window, making Nate look up. He pushed open the door for me.
"Why are you here?" I asked.
"Hayes said you needed a ride home."
"I didn't call Hayes, I called Jai." I told him.
"Who called Hayes." He explained. "Just get in, please. It's raining."
I hoped in not wanting my clothes wetter. "Just drive." I told him. "No talking."
When we got to my house I started to open the door but he locked the door. "Seriously?" I laughed.
"Please." He begged.
"There's nothing to talk about, or say." I unlocked the door and got out. Him following.
"Devon!" He shouted. It was still raining. "You started to hear me out at the bar let me finish."
I bit my tongue and turned around. "Nathan there is nothing to say!" I shouted over the rain. "So just leave, go back to LA!"
"No." He stated loudly. "That night I-I panicked, that's why I said what I did."
"What was so horrible that made you panic? I thought we were having a fun time and you were surround by your close friends," I stated looking at him. "So what was it?" I threw my arms up annoyed.
He walked towards me, standing closer to me. "Devon,"
Reese flung the door open and looked at us, Jai behind him. "What's going on?"
"Nothing, Ree." I looked back at him and told him. I turned back to Nate. "Skate here was just leaving," I looked up at Nate. "Back to LA." I said loud enough for Nate to only hear, I didn't care if Jai and Reese heard.
"Dev', I didn't mean a single word I said to you in that hallway." He stared down at me, searching my face.
"Nate, some part of you did." I told him tightening my grip on my bag and I turned around walking up the stairs and into the crappy trailer like house.
Once I got into my room and shut the door blocking out Jai and Reese I looked out the window I saw Nate kicking the dirt and cursing at him self before getting into the car.
