Part 7

Quinn’s POV

Penny and I studied for about an hour. I wanted to go straight home and yell at Mason over the phone, but I didn’t want Penny to be alone after that confession. I could tell Penny was trying really hard to teach me, but she wasn’t really into it and neither was I. So, after the hour has passed, I packed up my stuff and said goodbye.

“I’ll pick you up tomorrow, ok?” I smiled down at her as I left.

She managed a half smile in my direction before I left. I wanted to go back to those girls and make them apologize for hurting Penelope. In the pack, we stood up for one another, no one in the pack would ever get bullied on my watch, and I made sure of that. Seeing as how Penny is my mate, she’s also part of the pack.

Once I got home, I pulled out my cell phone to call Mason.

“Hello?”

“What is wrong with you?! Don’t you know anything about Penny?! Do you realize that this is all your fault?!” I yelled, as soon as I heard his greeting.

“Whoa, man, calm down. What are you talking about?” I sounded as if he was walking, because I heard some shuffling on his end.

“The reason Penny is so shy and quiet now, is because of you. The reason she’s barely hanging on is because of you.” I reiterated.

“What do you mean?” He sounded so confused, it only made me angrier.

“Mason, how could you not realize that Sandra was using Penelope to get to you? How could you not understand that once you left Penny, Sandra turned all of her anger of you breaking up with her, onto Penelope? How could you not see that her parents seemed to favor you over her and once you left they didn’t realize they had a second child? Why didn’t you check up on Penelope when you left?” I asked, all at once.

Silence, I heard absolutely nothing on his end. I heard some springs, probably his bed. I heard his breathing, but aside from that, there was no response.

“No way…Sandra hurt Penny?” Mason asked, shocked.

“Hurt is the understatement of the century! She’s ripped Penny apart, literally!” I exclaimed.

“No, Sandra was Penny’s best friend, ever since they were in the 6th grade and that was before we started dating!” He tried to explain.

“Don’t you understand?! She was using Penelope to get to you! As soon as you left, Sandra tossed Penny out like trash! Do you hear me!? Sandra used Penny and you!!!” I slammed my fist against the counter.

I was glad it was granite; otherwise I would have been crushed.

“What did Sandra do to her?” Mason finally asked the question I was hoping he would.

“Well one of the first days you had been gone, she gave Penny a swirly and took all the book you had given her, cut her hair off. She basically verbally and physically abused Penny and still is to this day.” I replied, anger lacing every word.

I was getting even angrier as I listened to myself talk. I had to calm down otherwise I’d shift right here. I went to get the picture of Penny I’d had for almost two years. It did help a little, but thinking about how she could have been faking that smile, just riled me up again.

“Quinn, I never knew. You have to know that I never knew.” He tried to justify himself.

“I know you didn’t know! That’s how Sandra did all this to Penny! She’s even spread rumors about Penny killing you! No wonder Penny is so introverted. She’s so scared of going to school and she’s even more terrified of making friends. She can’t even look anyone in the eyes because she’s scared of human contact.” I tried to describe to Quinn.
